Hi Zaffiral, It isn't a plan, just wondered what the views out there are. We have our views. Yes some sites could not be member only so ignore those. I say again, I was just thinking of the more popular sites.

You may very well be right in your observation on member sites as we notice very few children around such sites compared to open sites. Kiddies play area at the member only site at Loosehill has no equipment in it for example.

Both of us have disabilities which is why we have a larger older caravan that has a bathroom area that is adequate for our needs. This avoids the necessity of relying on a warden keeping a pitch near the loo open for you. I dislike having to use elbow crutches or the mobility scooter.
However having said that, we try and park near to a water and waste point and have a trolley for the cassette. We also tend to use CLs as opposed to man sites.

It may work if club members had to book in to a site in at least 24 hrs earlier than their holiday starts then they would be guaranteed a pitch if there is one, available and if you are a non member you can't book, but take pot luck if there was a pitch available when they arrived .In most cases if a non member is on a pitch it's because the member has not booked and expects a pitch to be there for them .Never gone anywhere yet as a member of C&CC and booked a pitch .I always go on spec as I don't use EHU. They have always managed to fit me in somewhere How can you tell who is a member and who isn't when they are already pitched?

Indeed, we do have a bathroom and toilet in our caravan too, which i use most of the time, but prefare the onsite facilities for showers as it saves my OH from struggling with the water hogs or lifting the cassette on and off its trolley when full.

I must also give praise indeed to the wardens of the Sandringham CC site, we are regular visitors there, and they have never failed us yet in finding a space near to the disabled facilities for us when we have rang to ask for one a couple of weeks before our planned trip. We have also seen them help elderly and disabled caravanners to set up their units and even put the awning up for them, they deserve an award for their help and friendliness up and above the call of normal duties, well done to Steve Salt and his team at Sandringham, your help is very much apprieciated by us and many others who may not be able to enjoy their caravan if it wasnt for the help you give to those who have disabilities who visit your site, we will see you again soon, and look forward to enjoying our suppers from The Village Fryer when he stops virtually outside our caravan door!

If you go on the CC website to the ask a question section and click on the "why do the CC accept non members on certain sites?", ALL the reasons why are clearly listed.

I think you need to go to Specsavers or Vision Express as they're the companies theat deal with sights. Camping & caravanning organisations I think deal with camp sites. Check it out in your dictionary.

I think you ought to move yourself to a forum for pedants if you want to pursue this type of rude posting - rude because this is a caravan/camping forum - providing one can read and understand what has been written there is no need to criticise spelling.

There is already one poster on this forum that has felt the need to point out that they are dyslexic, obviously to avoid ignorant posts like this.

BTW, isn't funny how people that feel the need to criticise others' spelling, always spell incorrectly themselves

I do the CC survey from time to time. Anyone else who does will know that it is operated to find out what folks think of the service and what improvements should be considered etc etc. Anyway, on the last survey, which was about PR, and related matters, I actually suggested that the CC should maybe consider setting aside certain pitches for folks with disabilites such as keeping pitches close to loos available for them.

On our last trip we took our disabled son and we managed to get a pitch right next to the loos, which was just a stroke of luck. However, there was a chap on the site who clearly had problems actually finding the loos from his pitch only about six pitches from the loo block. Quite elderly so maybe you can imagine what I mean.

Just thought it would have been beneficial for him to be closer to the loos as it was for our son. Not an easy one to address I admit, but, if certain popular sites were members only, then maybe they would have the option of keeping pitches free for disabled etc.

Many aspects to the question I have posed and thanks, Julia, for raising it

Phil

Until 2009, the CC used to allow you to request a "disabled pitch", and did indeed mark a few pitches accordingly.

Now you have to ring each site individually a while beforehand and request such a pitch. The success of this request seems to depend on how full the site is, and on the Warden.

Some wardens seem to make more effort to plan ahead, or still set aside a few suitable pitches, while others seem to go out on the day you will arrive and stick a wheelchair sign on the empty pitch nearest the disabled facilities, which often is NOT really near them.

I complained to HQ about this change but got nowhere.

Having to ring round 10-15 sites in preparation for a long touring holiday is not good, so we have not bothered.

Now, if we find there are no pitches near the facilities, like Surfer, we go for one near a service point and use our own shower.

I am a CC member & didnt know sites are open to non members. I find it difficult to get on sites (such as Lady Margrets) with two weeks notice nevermind a quick lets go moment, whats more frustrating you can look one night on the online booking system and there is no availability for the Saturday but Friday is open & the next night Saturday is free but Friday is fully booked. wonder why i bothered joining. Unless you know where your going well in advance seems pointless being the cc, i have been to one cc site this year on six trips and will only renew to keep a booking for Hayle later this year open..... other than that i look forward to the magazine.

When you are unable to get on a site due to it being full Phil, how do you know it's allowed non members on? Do you go round & ask??

It sounds to me as if you'd like sites to become members only if they're in a popular area but allow the likes of my very good self on if the site is somewhere not so poular. I'm sure we'd soon see a thread on here compaining about high pitch fees for members only sites were that to be the case. As othersw have said, some sites would be struggling to survive on members only.

To be honest, for me to go on a CC site it would have to accept non members, they refused to accept an application from me when I bought my first van back in the 1970s & on principle it'll be a long day before they have another application from me.

No its about a scenario of a member not being able to get on if there are non members and the equity of that. Also its not about all sites. Read my point rather than what you think the point is.  The CC has about 30% of its sites members only, so 70% are available for all. Just seems like an imbalance.

The little lady and I have been wondering recently why more CC sites are not members only. Loosehill is and that is very popular. Knaresbrough isn't and that is enormously popular. Now, if you are a member of the CC and you can't get into a CC site because it has some non members occupying pitches, would you be annoyed? Concerned?

Maybe the more popular sites up and down the country should be members only. We have visited some sites recently where the conduct of residents have been a bit iffy. Where their approach to the use of facilities has been suspect and our own view (which may be wrong) is that members wouldn't do that.

So the debate is...should the more popular CC sites be for members only.

Over to you

Phil

I did read your points Phil   & I wouldn't be concerned if a site was full, I'd just have to go somewhere else or book ahead.

People on a C&CC site wouldn't know if we were members RBD, we've never put a sticker in any of our vans so it seems we haven't got it, whatever IT may be .

To be fair, I've seen the CC magazines my mates has & they're nearly as good as the C&CC ones we get so I think membership of either club is worth the cost just for the magazine.
