Hi, I hope someone here can help me, I'm a bit thick when it comes to figures, but it don't help when I cant find them. In a nut shell I have 2 problems 1) I am trying to find out the model of my Avondale caravan. it only has Avondale written on it, no model name. Not sure if this helps but it has an end bath room with cassette type loo and a seperate shower room. 2) Also I am trying to find out the weight for towing it. I have looked on the towing frame and inside the doorway. The only thing I can find is a little plate above the door that gives me Digits 91AV*517** (left out some digits for security reasons), not sure if this is the VIN number or what. as it starts with 91. I just thought maybe this was the year it was made. also there are figures on the tow hitch But this looks like it is a replacement one so not sure if these figures are relevent to the van as it sys max 1600kg. I thought this is a bit high for a two berth van. But what do I know. Please help. Bill

I would say that it was a 1991 model and the AV stands for Avondale. As it's a 1991 model it may not have any CRIS registration numbers etched on the windows but if it has then at least it's a starting point. If you do have any ID numbers on any of the windows you could contact HPI and they will forward the relevant details to you for a fee. Other than that I can't offer any further assistance but good luck anyway and hope you find the details you need. CRIS didn't introduce the identification scheme until 1992 but a previous owner may well have had it registered at a later date.

Does it look like this ?

http://www.adtrader.co.uk/motoring/caravans/avondale-wren-1991-avondale-wren-2-3-berth-caravan_2128444.html?class_name=caravans&local=warrington-cheshire

Try looking on google for one for sale maybe you'll find one like yours and then you'll know the model

Thanks for the quick replies, yes I thought the 91 stood for the year and the AV stood for avondale. I have tried looking on ebay plus many other sites for one the same but no joy, There are several online that look similar but they are different makes. the closest I can find is the Avondale Wren but even that's a bit different. Thanks again. All i can do is keep waiting. and hope that someone has the same one and tells me the model and the weight. Bill

It would help if you could upload a photo of it then post it on here. You may just get someone who actually owned one and tell you exactly what the model is and the weights etc. or failing that you could take it to a weigh bridge with the caravan empty and then you will have an idea of the unladen weight.

Thanks, I will try to upload photos, you're right it may help. as for weigh bridge I have asked about but have been told it is quite expensive. So I thought I cheat and do it this way. They do say cheats never prosper :-)

I think a photo may be the easiest and in the right direction. Good luck and hope you get some results.

Most public weighbridges only charge a few quid for a reading and a printout. My local one cost a fiver. Obviously that won't give you the MPTLM but it's a start to know what you're weight is empty.

Greetings,

You could try giving CRIS (Caravan Registration scheme) a ring.
I know that your van is pre CRIS but a previous owner may have registered it.
If they thought you may be interested in registering the 'van with them, they may tell you if it has been done before and may be able to give you the information you require. Just have the chassis No. you have to hand when you ring.

I already suggested that idea if you read the second post. CRIS registration comes under the HPI banner as I had to register mine early this year.
