Oh I am not prescious over my caravan or even a snob . I do however have a nice van and car which I saved hard for and which I look after so they last. I am quite willing to have a laugh and let kids play and to help people out when they have forgotten stuff etc  BUT I draw the line at other peoples lack of respect for property.

On returning to our van on saturday pm I found the family behind us playing cricket. Fine there was adults with them so one would expect all would be ok. I could cope with the ball going under the van or in fact keep taking it out of the dogs mouth when it rolled within the 2 metre lead area. Then it bounced off the bonet of the car!! Then it rolled in the awning and the child stuffed its hand it the awning to retrieve it (good job the second dog we had with us did not decide to protect its bed space in the awning eigh)!! nthen another child from the same group began playing skipping with the excess electric cable which had been coiled under the van. I knocked on the front window and the child stopped this game. Finally the tennis ball hit the caravan which is when I snapped and marched outside to ask them to refrain from hitting the car or the van again or to use a soft ball. I recieved looks of sheer astonishment at my grumpiness!!! Is it all too much to expect...... we had a group of 6 children who played ball games with soft balls and a ban on hitting them too far or kicking the football off the ground.  and they managed to not hit anything. A ball from the other side rolled under the van and the child and parent came accross to politely ask for it back. No problem there.

Once is an accident

Twice is preventable but

Three times is entirely annoying

I have every sympathy with you.

Unfortunately it seems that the more popular the pastime becomes, (particularly when people take it up on grounds of costs rather than a leisure choice) the more likely it will be that you will be pitched in the vicinity of someone with no regard to you or your property.

I mean, why not? Its only like every High Street in the country.

The most disturbing part of it is that perpetrators aren`t even aware that they are doing anything wrong or which may adversely affect others, or if they are, they don`t care.

I agree entirely and strongly sympathize with Crazyplace.  In fact I have to say, you have been far more lenient than I would have been.  Having had a van damaged by a ball in the past, I start getting nervous at the site of a ball.  Do you know, I think I am going to go out and buy some sponge balls to loan out to people on site when I can see someone using any form of hard ball.

Why didn't you tell the site owner/warden as he could have then had a word with them? Was there somewhere else they could have played?

To be honest this all went on within about an hour and I really thought they would stop before I flipped. I would usually have a word with warden etc should it simply be a bit annoying or repettitive but all that in an hour was unreal to say the least.  there was not really anywhere else to play but I would have had no objection if they had a soft ball or they had attempted to tone it down . They were basically belting a tennis ball full whack with a cricket bat!! I did think about offering them a soft ball but to be honest if they cant work it out for themselfs I wlonder if they wouid actually realise why you suggested it.

I really understand your problem, I am paranoid about this, not just balls but frisby's too, I really don't think that some people give it a second thought.

For this reason wherever I can I go on adult only sites, c.l sites with no facilities and caravan club sites where I feel I can complain to the wardens without worrying about repercussions.
Luckily by choosing a site/pitch carefully we haven't had any problems like this for a couple of years.

I have booked a site for a week in a couple of weeks that isn't listed on ukcs so I asked what their policy was on ball games and dogs off leads just to check.

both clubs have a no ball policy now but it can cause a lot of friction as many refuse to take any notice.would they want to pay £600 for a new rear window if broken? no.one of the wardens at blackpool have a large dent put in his new motor-home with a ball.how much will that cost? we take up to three grandchildren at times and make sure they obey the rules of the site.i still say a high fenced area could be sorted out for these ball games would help.

you are right to feel annoyed I certainly would not have been so tolerant .
Another reason why we only use C.C and C&CC site,s because at least if you have any problems the warden should intervene .
I had a similar situation on a C&CC site last year and before I involved the wardens I spoke to the parents who were quite unhelpful and thought there little cherubs were doing know wrong kicking a football next to a line of caravans , there tune soon changed when I told them that should there children cause any damage I would expect full financial recompense and should they refuse to pay I would pursue it through my solicitor .
Sorry but my car and van cost me 43k last year and I'm not going to stand by and let it be damaged needlessly by a thoughtless family .

We do stay on alot of club sites and rules are obeyed but I just dont get why even on sites where there are no ball game rules common sense and respect should not prevail. We have a swing ball for times when there is not room for a safe game of ball, we have jumbo snakes and ladders, skipping ropes. all sorts of games suitable for non ball game areas.  We regulally camp on club sites in groups with upto 16 children from 6 to 14 years old and have never had a complaint re their behaviour in fact have often been complimented on their behaviour. I am pleased I was not being grumpy I was begining to wonder if i was turning into victor meldrew

It is annoying when you've got kids who want to play football or tennis and they're not allowed.  What would be great would be an area where ball games are allowed.

A few years ago we specifically went to the C&CC site at Woodall Spa (which still says ball games are allowed in the new big sites book) because ball games were allowed.  We had a whole field virtually to ourselves and the kids got told off for playing football.

The year before we'd been to their Sandringham site where ball games aren't allowed and perhaps we were naive but they got told off for playing swingball!
