Hi all,
I have not towed a caravan to Snowdonia for over 10years.
I am looking at recommendations for the least stressful route with any
suggestions for rest /eating stops en route with the caravan.
I am heading for either Bala or Porthmadog
Many Thanks
Terry

Depends on what stesses you? !
If its hills and narrow roads you dislike, then go up the A449 to Monomouth, and then the A49 up through Hereford and Ludlow to Shrewsbury, and then up the A5 into Wales and turn off in Corwen for the A494 to Bala. Its a wide, flat road, with plenty of opportunuiites to stop, but not very scenic and with a fair amount of traffic. This is the route I take when driving to Cardiff solo, as its quicker.
If its traffic you dislike, then the more direct A470 up from Merthyr Tydfil, Brecon, Builth Wells and on to Dolgellau, where you turn right for Bala or carry straight on for Trawsfynydd and Porthmadog. It is quieter, narrower, hillier and prettier. plenty of laybys but you'll need to prepare a flask and sandwiches as its quite remote!

I agree A49/A5 route is probably the easiest to tow, and with places to pull in for a break. A470 route is prettier, but definately need to have your own drinks etc.

Many thanks for the suggestions.
I dont think things have changed much since the last time i went there.
I love the A470 route but not really any good stopping places en route.
The A5/A49 is definitely the easiest for towing but again not very good parking
places en route.
Looks like it will be the A470 and our own sandwiches
