just returned from a great weekend away on a cc site ,it is one we have used before and as the sun had just returned we asked if there was any chance of stopping on for a extra 2 hours (as there were no departure by 12 signs up)we were told no,  that they needed the pitch as they were fully booked as we packed up we got chatting to another couple who we also departing today but were stopping on till 3pm,as they were regulars and only lived localy,no problem we packed up and drove home when i got home i checked avaliability and the site was only half full for today, this is not a isolated case to us we regularly ask if a site seems quiet (as it states in all site documents)if we can extend our stay by 1 or 2 hours and have always been told it is not possible,i was wondering if any body else has experienced this and is it a case of getting on first name terms with the wardens

Sounds totally out of order to me, Tony.  Wardens have no authority to give special, individual treatment to one member as opposed to another.  Being a 'regular' does not earn this privilege.  As an example, the 'regular' could actually make less pitch fee contributions over the year than yourself; just one example of unjustifiable favouritism.

If I had such an experience, I would take the other member's car reg., the name of the warden, and report it to head office.  I have often observed differing signs of welcome which pass between wardens and campers.  OK, if someone is a regular, then a difference between them and a strange member will be likely, but it stops there; offering different levels of facility (which an extension of leaving time is), is corrupt and unacceptable.

Bertie.

You can't pre book particular pitches with the CC.

A pitch is either free or it isn't, you can usually pick any pitch which is free. If it isn't then you have to go on one that is.

Wolverley CC did let me do a late check out for a donation into a charity box in Reception provided i was gone by 5pm. (as no one was coming onto the pitch)  But i have had other issues wih CC sites not letting me pre book for 1 night at the weekend in mid season even though they had availabillity on that pitch for on night.

we have been allowed a couple of hours on occasion, but the wardens generally ask us to not tell others as they say, we can let just a few if they arent booked for that day, but if everyone does it, there will be very little choice for the people who are arriving that day.

we view it as a lucky bonus if we are given permission, but at the end of the day, we book in the knowledge that we should vacate by 12.00

On one occasion, we went for a one nighter and knew we wanted to stay until the evening of the second day, so i actually booke for the second night too, even though we wanted to leave by 7.pm the warden was not happy with this, saying that it was unfair to other members who actually wanted to stay at the site.

i cannot understand this thinking at all. we booked online, just s few days before our trip, we paid full pitch fees, just used less of the facilities and left early. what really can be the problem? we are paid up members and the club nor site have not lost out at all??

The campsite I use regularly say they like to rest pitches when they can so the grass has time to recover,3 two week holidays on one pitch can be very hard on the grass area As it has been stated, CC sites let you choose any pitch available when you arrive, but CCC sites don't, you go where the warden wants you to go but they may give you the choice of a number of pitches.

Yes it all depends on the wardens, if you know them, if they like you and how they are feeling at the time.

I believe they do have 'buddies' who they do favours for, one site down south said no arrivals before 1pm, when we got there the site was nearly full, people were putting up awnings which indicated that they had arrived early. When I mentioned this to a couple of peole thay said, there was a lot of regulars who knew the wardens well.

On staying at the Sutton on sea site last year, we were told we couldn't stay later on the Sunday as there were a lot of people coming in. When we asked if we could pay an extra night and leave at 6 pm we were told yes we could do that.....strange either they are booked up or they aren't.

I have said that it would be a good idea to be able to pay a half fee to stay late of arrive early at times when they are not booked up. I sent a letter to the cc but they don't seem interested and wouldn't say why.

i dont mind being off the pitch by 12 as long as wardens arent letting on site outfits that roll up at 11am.
the rules should work both ways but on many cc sites they seem to be able to bend them in favour of letting vans on early.

We must have been really lucky in the past then ,as we always ask what time we need to be off by and are usually told there is no hurry.

We've extended our departure a few times on CC sites, with no problems - usually till 4pm ish.

As long as they're not fully booked I don't see the problem.
We've also done it on a couple of non CC sites, which charge a £5 or so to stay until 6 - well worth it if we're only away for the weekend.

I've also booked the following night to get a late departure without problem.

When you book you do so in the knowledge that you have to leave by midday. If you are able to stay longer its a bonus not a right. Perhaps the warden had already agreed to a certain number stopping beyond midday on a first come first served basis so that he could allow for new arrivals. OK it makes for good debate on a forum like this but if you want the situation resolved you need to discuss it directly to the Caravan Club. Wardens do have a lot of local autonomy and its doubtful a complaint would make much headway, however if you suggest that wardens need to be seen to be even handed that is a different matter. Better still join the Caravan Club online survey group and views on issues such as this are discuss. The recent survey was about members views on customer service both on site and at HQ.

I agree with David K, in so far as to stay late on a site is a bonus.  After saying that, I can't think that we've ever been refused a request by us to stay later on a CC or C&CC Site.  Obviously we have been really lucky.

I joined the CC online survey group and participated in a survey and I got a snooty Email telling me that I wasn't in a position to make a comment about cancelling member ship as it was in my husbands name. I'm furious. We have a joint membership why should he be more important than me ? Just because he's the first name on the form. Bl**dy not PC I say.
