Hi All,

Just a question that I'm sure other members of CC may be able to answer. We've got Hillhead booked down in Devon Wed through to Sunday this week. At the moment it's looking a bit dodgy about what time I'll get away from work on Wed which means we might hit the 8:00pm arrival or quite possible we wont.

I don't really want to wait until Thurs to go down there and I notice they've got two late night arrival areas. Anyone used these before and how much notice (if indeed any) should we give wardens. I can't see anything in relation to this on CC site but I might have missed it.

Many thanks in advance

Jason

I've often wondered this about using the Late Night Arrivals area, but haven't had to use it (yet)! When we were recently at Ferry Meadows, Peterborough we saw a caravan arrive after 8.00pm and they just pulled into the space that was available.

I presume that you should to let the wardens know that you are not going to make it before 8.00pm and that in the morning, once you've paid, you are able to go on site to a pitch that you had previously booked.

What happens if you just get held up on your way and don't make it before 8.00pm? There are usually only one or two LNA pitches, i wonder what happens if they are both in use.

You would think there was a little more clarity on the CC site wouldn't you. It's pretty clear what you'll pay but not how it works in practice (maybe to allow a little local mgmnt by wardens) . I'm sure we were at rowan park a few weeks ago and a van pulled on well after 8:00pm. I'll give them a call in the morning and let you all know.

Just spoken to a pleasant chap at Hillhead. No concept of booking late night arrivals (which I guessed) and all he's done is confirm they've got two and taken my name so wardens are aware that we may be running late and might need one

I cannot speak for the CC as we are in the Cc&C but they are pretty much the same for the 8pm rule. But we had broken down and could not even get offsite until 3.15  we phoned the next site to explain what had happened and that we were on our way. We actuallly arrived at 7.30 so beat the dealine. But before we had got there as long as we let them know they were reasonable it is NOT letting them know that is worse after all anyone can either break down or traffic accident causing tailback etc. Others must of had to arrive late also. They have to draw the line at anything too late becasue of the noise but if your later than normal try hard to be as quiet to do it as there is nothing worse than someone banging pegs etc late at night when if it is not needed till the morning they could wait. Like an awning not needed as not people in it. Tents have to caravans do not.

Best to advise the wardens.  Had a thought though.  If you don't arrive, does the 'booked pitch' automatically become vacant on line?   I'm thinking of the possibility that someone could book very late at night, or in the early hours, and the booking be lost.  Some clarification here might benefit us all.

Bertie.

That's because they are specifically for ferry passengers. I don't think you have to book at other sites but it would pay to phone them first.

Hi, should not think so, if warden knows you are comming, and pitch would still be shown as occupied even if you did not get to site that night, if warden was not informed you would not be arriving on site(no show) he may have freed the pitch at end of day (8pm) then you could lose your pitch for other days, the CC would hold pitch and if no show would report the member to head office, good question worth a bit more investigation to find out the exact position.

Hi Rossco01, glad you got the late night arrival area, did not think you would have problem setting up there, get onto site in morning and enjoy your trip. Good luck.

Hi Bertie, Just looked up old CC site directory and hand book. Rule 16 Advance Booking of Pitches.

  1. A specified pitch cannot be reserved.
  2. Where a booking is not taken up by 8pm on the day of arrival, the booking will be considered cancelled unless a later arrival time has been agreed with the Warden.
  3. The Warden should be notified of the cancellation of booked pitches no longer required no later than 24 hours prior to arrival.

To your thought of pitch becoming available on line, think it would according to clause b that would seam to apply to rest of the booking, assuming that the Warden had entered the non notified non arrival into the computer.

Hope that helps clarify matters.

Hi Lassie, On some sites I have seen two lanes for late night arrivals, and they take 4 units depending on van size, two in each lane. There may still be room for you if these are full, but you may not have hook up. If you go to CC web site and look up a site, there is a site plan, click on it and up will come the plan of the site and any late night arrival areas in PDF form, there is also the number of the site you could call them and ask how many vans can the late night arrival areas hold.
