Changed car recently and need a new number plate for the van to reflect the new number! Current one is just a reflective self adhesive sticky. Can we replace with the same? I work for a sign company but we don't have number plate facilities, and can't find an answer about the law on sticky ones!
Thought that was the general impression I was getting! Oh well, acrylic it is then! I too have been looking at Ebay, I realise too that they need identification usually to purchase one. Thanks for your help!
Just got a plate from a local discount motor shop, only £9 - I am led to believe that they're £15 at Halfords but I didn't check, the local shop was nearer.
Obviously need docs for the car + 1 more with the SAME address on - I used my Driving License as its kept with the rest of my car docs.
I believe that the plate on your caravan does not have to conform with that of the registered vehicle. You therefore can get a "show" plate for the van that are as cheap as chips on Ebay.

this guy
was the cheapest doing proper plates a month ago, had 4 plates from him, good, quick service. they are MOT standard "show plates" ie they dont have the bs no on the back, but its not required on a trailer/van anyway, I had them on a car, went through mot not a blink of an eye.
i frown at people with made up cardboard or sticky plates...they were made illegal several years back....i suppose they never get followed by plod to get stopped.
i have had the cheapies off of the bay for the trailer and caravan. i cant get my vehicle documents that easily
not had any issue, although never been stopped. occaisionally you find road legal ones on the bay without a need for papers, and i have done this for my bike and got through MOT no probs.
just make sure it has the postcode of the maker on it and all is ok as they all seem to use the correct british std mark anyway.
Got ours for our Pennine in May 2011 = £6.50 on eBay as it has been said it is not the car that it is for and the caravan or whatever.
It could be an older unit, does that mean everytime you change your unit you have to get registered number plates, rather ridiculous as some can afford to change a lot more than others.
Yes you now need to be registered, that's why the sign company I work for don't do numberplates!!! I've gotten one sorted, I just wasn't sure that I could replace the old one that was there for another sticky (i.e. without the acrylic) or if these were illegal now. Anyway, 100% road legal one ordered!!!

Not quite sure about that. Once on the road, the caravan becomes subject to laws apertaining to road vehicles, and the plate on the van is representing that on the rear of the towing vehicle. I wouldn't fancy the risk of challenging it in court.
i recently went into a trailor shop that also sold number plates explained to him i needed a rear plate for my caravan that had falled off in transit he could see i had the van with same plates and done it no paperwork no questions asked.
DVLA lays down clear rules relating to plates. It warns that altering fonts, spacing, font size, colour etc can result in a heavy fine and withdrawal of the plate. However it offers registrations for sale at highly inflated priced
knowing full well that they WILL be altered and nothing will be done about it..
