I had a Rhyno Mover fitted(by Rhyno) plus a new battery 2 months ago.

Went to prepare the van(in storage) ready for our first trip on the weekend and my

OH decided to try the mover.

Dropped legs, engaged rollers, brake off and switched on.Remote lit up OK but nowt happened when mover selected not a twitch or sound out of it.

Switched off, checked connections and retried as advised in instructions still no movement.

Suspected a flat caravan battery although new so connected the car to the caravan

All 12v systems in the van appeared to be working so tried again.

Got a humming noise for a few seconds then nothing.

This time looked as though internal 12v items(lights, radio etc) are not working but

road lights OK.

As it was getting late and i had no bits/tools etc i switched the mover off and came

home to check manuals etc.

No obvious clues there.

It seems unlikely that all the fuses are blown so i am scratching my head.

Have i overlooked something obvious?

Any constructive suggestions would be welcome before i contact Rhyno

Many Thanks

Terry

If your car was stilled plugged to van, road lights would be directly powered from your car, but the rest of the van's internals would (I assume) still be routed via the panel and associated fuses/relays/etc., so I would check fuses/circuit breakers etc before contacting Rhyno.
Good lick!

If the lights and radio aren't working then it would seem that the problem lies with the battery losing charge.  Best thing to do first is to check the battery with a multimeter.

Hi themeldrews, I Had same problem with my mover when first installed,( it is a Reich Mover with remote engagement) It happened on 3 occasions, 1st was the small engagement motor did not have any clearance under the van floor, it jammed when van was lowered onto tow ball, burnt out the remote motor and electrics. 2nd Fitter told I had no way to access the isolation switch once van was parked in drive, mover isolating switch was left ON when plugged in to AC hook up at my home, the Mains AC fluctuation blew the main mover board, (engineer was told by Reich that it could be left ON and would cause no damage, £120 board replaced, free of charge). 3rd time it happened was after battery taken out (repair door hinge on batter box) re connected, tried mover nothing, I had to press the reset button on the mover box and pair up the unit to the remote, Bingo all was well. Oh just a thought, if you have remote control are the battery(s) in good condition, if not will not send strong enough signal to mover.   This may not be as your problem, but may help if you have similar equipment.Hope this has helped.

I once forgot to turn my Rhyno off after I had used it and when I came to collect it from its service a week later there was no way that I could get it to work. So I turned it off and went inside again to ask for assistance from the service staff ad when I came out it worked perfectly. So initially I would say turn the unit off with the red lever on the switch and leave it for some time, then turn it back on, press the two green buttond together and then try to move it again by pressing the red button. If it does not work then I would turn it off again, plug the battery into a charger and leave for 24hours then try the whole process again. If it still did not work I would check the battery with the multimeter to make sure that the battery was reading at least 12.75V which after a full charge it should be, and if it was I would ring Rhyno and get them out to sort it. If the batttery was down I would bench charge it for a time and see what voltage I could get it to rise to ( I would be looking for over 14v whilst on charge ) and once taken of charge I would let it settle for a few hours then check the voltage agan, if it still did not get to 12.75v I would buy take the battery back to the supplier and ask for them to replace it.

I learned a long time ago that just because I replaced parts with new ones did not guarantee that I had got parts that worked.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

We had no trouble with our Rhyno which we had fitted on our old van.  There has been plenty of posts on here from owners of all makes of movers who have had problems.

The fact that the internal electrics are not working unless connected to the car point to a battery problem.  The van had been in storage for 2 months so something like an alarm or radio may have drained the battery.

Hi to All the positive posters,

Took out the installed battery and my old battery put them  on charge overnight.

Forgot to do a multimeter check before i charged them but in the morning both

showing over 13v and the charger was on maintenance for both of them.

Checked out the caravan, opened the blinds and applied grease to moving parts

(except rollers).

Rechecked all the electrics breakers all OK.

12 volt fuse panel checked found 2 fuses blown radio/Aux and Van batt+(15a fuse).

Replaced fuses checked all the others and the mover control box.

Fitted my old battery and tried mover on the storage site. The ground is sl*g and a bit

loose. The solid jockey wheel digs in quite a bit.

All seems to be working (slowly but i assume that is normal)

I have tried this unit 3 times to see if i can replicate the problem but seems to be

working OK.

So will see how it works on holiday.

I am puzzled what  caused the original problem.

Hopefully this is now resolved.

Thanks for the constructive advice

Terry
