It's been 5 years since we took the van to France. I need to organise breakdown cover for car/van, which will get us home in the event of me (the only driver) being unable to drive.
Can anyone recommend a good breakdown insurance please? I can't remember what we had last time! Thanks in advance!

I don't look any further than europ assistance. They are not expensive for health & breakdown cover and they gave us a 5 star service when we were in trouble in Spain.

If you are in either the CC or C&CC clubs then use their breakdown cover Most car derived covers fall down in certain areas.such as will not recover caravan if it is not connected to the car.only cover vans up to certain lengths.
will not attend to a fault on the caravan ect,ect
think of this scenario, your van is on site, you are out in the car & have a breakdown /accident,that requires the car to be repatriated. Will they pick up the van from site & repatriate it as well,or sorry it was not attached to the car so we cant get it home.
If your not in one of the clubs you could try Britannia premium cover,or many swear by ADAC the German recovery service

We have our cover through Green Flag Mayday and it includes Onward journey, Home Start and Extra Care in case I am unable to drive. Cost is about £89 per year.

a great choice but it does not cover holidays abroad which is what the OP was interested in & you have to be in the CC to join

Ta muchly, good peoples....
Our normal breakdown is via C & CC/RAC, but booked the holiday through Caravan Club. Just need to identify who we'll go with for our French trip.

If your normal breakdown is RAC/C&CC, you probably have the RAC Arrival insurance. This can be extended to cover European travel at extra cost, but might be your best option in the circumstances.

Hi
we have cover with swift.
it proved excellent last year when we had major car trouble. they even called local taxi and car hire people and got it dirrected to the campsite. they checked with the garage progress on our car - even arranged for the trailer tent to be stored with the car in france until the 2 could come back together.
they went above and beyond the usual service. they also phoned us on mobiles - so we didnt have huge bills. All of this only cost less than £50. for 3 week european cover.
From my experience what we had was a nightmare but the way we were delt with we could carry on our holiday without having to come back early.
good luck - happy camping
