Go away in your caravan do you switch your fridge on? Im going away in 10 days time and since I had problems i.e. changing the element i've left the fridge on.

Only the day before for us.  We take a huge electric cool box too so drinks & picnic for on the way travel in that & Mr Tesco delivers all our chilled food & shopping for the holiday straight to the site.

Our caravan, like many others, is in storage so we cant turn it on, but within 30 mins to1 hour once we get to the site its fine, so I would question the need to turn it on a long time before departing. Our fridge food travels in a 12v coolbox.

If we have the van at home it goes on the night before. We are like ellers52 with our van in storage. We take some food milk and some frozen stuff and put that in the fridge with ice blocks. When we get on site (usually around 3 hours after leaving storage) the stuff in the fridge is fine and the frozen stuff still frozen.

Oncev I bring the van home from store we usulaly put the fridge on overnight if we can to cool.

Our fridge goes on the day before and we load it up as soon as it's cool enough that means one less job to do on arrival can't see the point of carrying stuff in a cool box and having an empty fridge unless weight was an issue

We take our stuff straight from the fridge or freezer put it in the caravan fridge  then off we go straight away, its usually cold when we get there and very cold by the time we go to bed on the first night.  We pack our freezer full before a long trip abroad and have never had any problems.  We too are in storage and cannot really leave van outside house overnight as we are right near a school.  I think its a great idea to have your stuff delivered straight to the site, might do that next time. J x
