A good mate of mine used to get an old tired caravan, completely strip it down to the shell, then respray it and refit the interior using new units and seating. The results were fantastic. The interiors were tastfully modern with cool colours on the fabric and modern kitchen unit doors from ikea.
He used to re-fit 2 or 3 each year to subsidise his low wage.
Sadly I dont have any pics, so you will have to take my word for the results.
Have any of you ever re-fitted your caravan?
I am a joiner and like a challenge, I fancy having a go but need a free caravan (like thats going to happen LOL)

Sounds like a very good idea to me. You hear a lot about house make-overs and I know a lot of people who have renovated old boats, but not so much about 'vans. Repair yes but not total revamp.

yes there are free caravans around (not many but some are)
I for one gave a fully working caravan away last year due to a damp wall and didnt have the time to repair.
look on freecycle and such places and consider dropping a leaflet or 2 about to the houses that have caravans sat on there drive that appear not to have moved for a while. youll be suprized on what you find..
You will be surprised how many folk have an old caravan sitting in their garden and will gladly give it away,if you collect, I've seen them on eBay go for £50 that need gutting.

The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
Thinking of Gutting mine out to replace some damp bits. Caravan came of the car and broke some supports and the front ally section. I'm toying with the idear of using metal like angeled ally stripes. Like the checker plate you see on alot of 4x4's and truck tread plate. Just trying to work outthe pro's and cons
We broke a Swift Challenger 360SE for the interior parts recently, and it was not too bad until we got to the structure. Then it was hidden screws, screws put in then covered by another part and so on.
If you are just doing relatively minor work inside then it wouldn't be too bad, but anything major might turn out to be a real nightmare. Staples are used as much as screws in these vans.
many build adventure caravans . strip it right back to the chassis then build a steel frame adding strength etc . pulled behind landrovers ,landcruisers etc. so long as you dont exceed the axle weight any thing is possible . all the exteria panels ar a vailable , talk to a truck body builder . all the trim stuff to finish off is quite cheap.
as for resale build what you want dont sell it. look for one with a nice shaped fibre glass roof you cant go wrong. replace the wood frame with steel box or angle . adds weight but much stronger. aluminium would be nice but comes more expensive. cheers alan.
