We have a small patch of damp in the rear of our caravan, which the dealer fixed under warranty by sealing a screw in the rail. He did this a month ago, but the damp meter reading doesn't seem to be reducing any. Can anyone give me an idea of how long it usually takes for a damp patch to begin to dry out?
it sounds to me like your dealer has done a complete bodge job, has he had the dehumidifiers in?
had the wallboard off to see the extent of the damage behind?

It will take a long time. The moisture is trapped between the waterproof aluminium skin on one side and the waterproof vinyl wallboard membrane on the other, so the only escape route is via the joins in the wallboard or interior fittings that aren't sealed with mastic.
Does the damp meter show that the damp area is local to the screw? Obviously if it is still leaking it will never dry out. I Believe in this stuff;
having used it with success on various boat leaks for many years. If you get some and follow the instructions - apply it to any and every potential leak in the suspect area, including screw heads, rails etc. you will probably save yourselves a trip to your dealer. The crack cure is seriously good stuff. It is white and thinner than water when you apply it and it will find the smallest hairline crack or leaky screw thread, then it dries like clear silicone. Well worth a try!

Still confused about the damp not getting sorted by the dealer first though - but maybe they did dry it out - then it got wet again as leak not fixed properly ???
Dealer is trying to disguise the damp problem which could make it even worse than before. As the dealer claims warranty work from the manufacturer I wonder why they are ducking out of it.
Take it back to the dealer and tell them that you want it fixed properly otherwise you will be talking to Trading Standards!
I would also write them a letter at the same time and send it registered mail giving them 10 days in which to respond. This gives you a paper trail in case it ever went to court. Don't let the dealer fob you off with excuses.

Do you know the OP personally as the OP states "under warranty a month ago" so if it was not fixed correctly the first time, the repair is still under warranty. I fail to understand why you say no manufacturer's warranty as the contract is with the dealer anyway to repair the unit under warranty unless I misunderstood your post.

Then it is covered under the dealer warranty and the good news is that the OP has case and the dealer is responsible for the repair!
If the dealer refuses then the OP needs to contact Trading Standards.

Thank you all - Al+Mel are exactly right about the circumstances, the van's 13 years old but we had no issues with damp when we purchased it a couple of months ago. I'm fairly sure that the dealers will be helpful about it, but had no real idea how much of a decrease in the damp meter reading we should have seen in a month. From this thread, I'm starting to suspect the answer is that it will have stayed much the same.
Hi-we had damp repaired in our caravan in April last year under warranty,the caravan went into dealers for its annual service at the end of May,and they phoned us up in a panic saying it was showing damp (it was a new dealer,our first time using them).We explained it had been back to the factory for repair,so they advised us to take it back to them in August for a damp check-which we did and it was 100% dry by then.
