Hi all

Hope someone can help, We have a 1995 Abi Jubilee Viceroy GT, and just replaced the leisure battery as it was showing a faulty cell. The issue we have is that when its connected to the car (7 pin 12v S), Inside on the control panel there is 1 switch CAR/NEUTRAL/CARAVAN when its connected to car it shows a green light and also when its connected to caravan it now shows green light as before we replaced the battery the light would go to red and then dim to off. The problem is when its connected to the car and I click on the 12v red switch on the fridge the light doesnt come on and have travelled last weekend for a about 3 hours and the fridge didn't get any colder.

Any ideas please, like I said I have to replaced the battery and renew BOTH 7pin plugs.

I am going to get a multimeter to check the voltage when disconnect from car and then connected to see if it alters in voltage.
I have checked the fuses which looks to be releated to the plugs and lights in the under seat near to the boiler and they all are fine.
I have read that someone said to another memeber to check there charger and fuse in the caravan but where is this charger??

Thanks in advance

Firstly your caravan battery has nothing at all to do with runiing the fridge, nor does the switch that says car/caravan/off have anything to do with the fridge. The FRidge on 12v takes all its power from the cars charging circuits and is isolated from all of the caravans other circuits.  You need to check the S socket ( the grey one ) on the car and check that when the engine is running that you have a 12v supply across pins and 3 ( this way because it is a 1995 van ) ( the two on the right hand side as you look at it from where the plug goes in. This supply should give at least12v and probably more like 13.8v when the engine is running and no voltage at all when the engine is turned off.  I

If you have this then you need to plug the s plug in and then follow the cables back into the caravan until they connect to the fridge ( and see what voltage you have there, but my first check would be withing the S plug itself to make sure that the wires are all connected properly and that they are secure.

If searching through all this does not solve the problem you need an electrician.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Another quick check is to turn the fridge on, & connect a multimeter on ohms range between pin 3 earth (pin 7 on post 1998), & pin 6 on the caravan S plug. It should read just over 1 Ohm. Following this & the advice above, you van quickly narrow the fault down to the car or caravan. Some common faults are S plug/socket poor connection, split charge relay in the car faulty or set incorrectly & less likely is the 12V element in the fridge.
