just been away on our first 3 day trip with our first caravan . its a 5 yr old abbey. everything great about it till we come to cook tea and the gas went out after 5 mins and didnt come back on at all. We were informed of the  new steel pigtail connection and to change our blue gas bottle to red which we did but were not impressed with this additional problem. 2 days later we tried it again and it came on then went off again .never the less i went home with all my food i took and put it in the oven there. a very let down holiday. can anyone help please.

As the caravan is post 2003, it should have the new type of regulator, the bulkhead type. If it's the truma one, this is a common problem, & may require a new regulator. More info here.

Hi backyardigan, I sounds like rodderstrotter says, when I was replacing my regulator, I looked at the truma one, the salesman informed me they had a lot of problems with them, the engineer said they thought it was to do with regulator being fitted lower than the top of gas bottle, allowing it to get sediment from gas into it, and they had altered the height of regulator and all was ok. I am not a gas engineer, so not sure if this is correct, there should be some gas engineers along shortly that can shed some light on this, as I am interested in the replies.

It has been a common problem for several years. oil from the gas,or leaching from the rubber pigtail blocks the regulator,& it cannot be repaired. Truma blame it on the gas & calor deny it.If you have to buy a new regulator buy the Gaslow kit.It has a 5 year warranty
