A news item has just been on our 'local' news following a 'number of accidents' (their words) involving caravans apparently travelling too fast???
They then showed the typical holiday traffic down here in the west Country where the traffic was nose to tail doing less than walking speed.
There then followed a conversion with two police officers who seemed to imply that they were going to be proactive regarding badly loaded and excessively fast caravans.
The item concluded by the media man squatted down at the front of a caravan which surprisingly had both an old style 'blade' stabiliser fitment and an AlKo Stabiliser which the 'front of camera' correspondent described as, wait for it, "Handle"???
So there you have it.
If you are coming down to "The Pointy Bit" of the UK, be prepared to be pulled into a Motorway Service Station and checked for weights, tyres and loading.
------------- How come when some people visit the fountain of knowledge, they only gargle!!!
Thanks for the warning but I doubt anyone on this forum needs to worry - I'm sure anyone who is vaguely regular on here will know all the ins and outs of weights, loading etc. - there are so many posts on these topics...
Ironically, it's the people who don't come on here or do any other research, that are likely to be caught out.

they do pull caravans in not far from where i live . i have spoken to vosa about their findings they seem to reckon 50%percent of caravans are overloaded and a similar amount of m,homes are as well.
they say its much easier to get a result on leisure vehicles than commercial as most have no idea of what they can or cant tow. A30 near fraddon by the macdonalds in the big layby going north.
so becareful they do catch quite a few. some they restrict the movement till stuff is removed .

The last time I went to Cornwall it was impossible to speed...in fact I was static for half the journey
The reason why was possibly because some muppet had overloaded his/her van
The actual news piece was filmed during the clear up from a accident with a caravan hence the slow speed.
I regularly ride my motor bike around the roads of Cornwall and I am dismayed at the driving practises of some car/caravan owners, so if the police do pull some of the more obviously dubiously loaded vans then I am all for it, as long as the lesson is learnt.
And before everyone says it there are "bad bike riders" as there are bad caravanners, that's life.
