Ooh, I see it's been rumbling on while I've been away for 2 nights, (incidentally saving £18 by showering in the van & using my own loo (soz couldn't resist !))
Just a couple of comments, I know there's sites for every preference & if we don't wanna pay for awnings, dogs, loos etc then choose a different site but this thread wasn't started as a moan, simply as an observation and secondly you really dont have to have a big, posh, expensive caravan to be able to use the bathroom facilities, ours is a single axle, has a small side bathroom & it's perfectly usable, dont get me wrong it's nice to be able to stand under constant water in a "proper" shower but we're on a budget, thats why we dont stay in hotels or choose expensive sites & the money we save by using our own facilities means we can go away a lot more, I simply hadn't realised how much we'd saved.
I must admit we always used to use shower blocks, I didnt like the idea of using the loo for anything other than a wee & the shower was just used for storage but one weekend it was howling down, windy & cold, I'd got a stinking cold and had been putting off my trip to the shower block because I was so cosy & really didnt fancy getting ready & going out in the weather so i decided to give it a go in the van & it was so much easier than I'd imagined, we're going away with my parents in a few weeks who also wont use the van loo & I'm considering spiking Mom's tea so she HAS to use it in the night......

It's not a criticism just an observation, I agree that sites have to make money & have no problem at all with it but hadn't realised just how much people paid to use a loo block, our site has 100 pitches & so could generate up to £900 a day if it had loos! Imagine if you had to walk to reception and hand over £9 a day for a key to the block, we've totalled up 33 nights this year so far at Ebury so have saved a massive £297 by using our own shower & loo.
and if you do not have the luxury of your own shower or loo what then methinks. Phewwwww!!! On saying that I have to use the disabled facilities so having a shower unless it was a suitable one is not good. As I have a fc I do take a porta potti in a plinth but a shower noooooooooooooo!!! so as I do not want to phewwwwww!!!! I pay up. As we have just spent 63 nights away I am not even going to use a calculator(I dare not) Still do get help out of high season for being 75/67 years of age so it helps.Cannot even use half the sites normally as the pushing a wheelchair not so easy at times. But still better than a stink
C+CC sites will continue to advertise reasonably pitch fees which become very costly once all the extras are added for as long as there are enough mugs willing to pay. Our favourite site, less than 12 miles from Kinnerley and a stones throw from Ebury is definitely NOT a C+CC site It has loos hot showers and washing facilities, a disabled wetroom and washing up facilities. Everything is spotless at all times. The pitch fee paid is for van,awning,2 adults,hook-up,and free use of all facilities.

Btw - I'd like to know where these campsites that Rune mentioned are.... `Currently staying on a site with toilet and shower for £10 per unit night - last year we were on a site, again with toilet and shower, for £12 per unit night but to be fair that one did have a swimming pool as well...
Oh and both were CSs...'
wonder if he's willing to tell ?
Of course I am my dear La-la:
The one with the swimming pool was Brickyard Farm in Banham Norfolk - unfortunately the new owners never reopened it for this years season otherwise we would have been back there instead of at Orchard Cottage in Weybread in Suffolk, both of these we found on the C&CC site finder both are/were CSs.
Don't book or arrive at this type of site expecting shiny new brick built fully tiles shower/toilet blocks because they are not, they can be described as "rustic" and would elicit the term "in urgent need of modernisation" from many forum reviewers BUT they are clean, in fact very clean and, importantly, they stay that way all day long - in fact until they are cleaned the following day.
The swimming pool at Brickyard Farm was a nice extra, you paid for a session (something like £5 per hour) but the swimming pool was then all yours or your family for that hour (they still have the holiday cottages open there but not the caravan site)
It is a case of looking, finding, and enjoying and remembering you are probably saving at least £18 per night by using these sites
