Just heard on the local news that a car and caravan have gone down an embankment on the M6 in Cheshire i hope everyone is ok, .
Have to say im shocked at the way some people tow vans these days yesterday two overtook us on the M6 at Preston both were snaking badly depsite there being a sign flashing saying tow safely, it seems these accidents are becoming commonplace these days
xx Gill
I do hope they are all OK and I do agree some people when towing their vans are downright dangerous...on a motorway it is a 60 mile per hour limit for a reason when towing. i travel the M62 & A1 everyday commuting to work and i see some dangerous practice with caravans. Please be careful!!

Who's to say that they weren't doing 55, loaded correctly but had a blow out?
Or another vehicle cut them up and forced them off the road
Speed is NOT a factor in every caravan incident.
Nobody said the van in question did speed etc and i did show compassion for the situation, the other comments are observations seen on a daily basis on busy roads I travel on...not the M6!

Yes agree with little basher, why bother with accident investigation. looks like the cause has already established and attributed to excessive speed according to the UKcampsite jury.
Could have had a blowout, someone may have swerved in front, driver may have been taken ill etc etc.

First of i did not judge this driver at all, but i will say this the police have not started using flashing warnings on the M6 asking for safe towing for nothing have they ? and those of you who suggest that i was saying the driver was speeding are wrong plus how do you know he/she wasnt ? now who is playing the judge and jury ? we wont know until we see a report of what happened, i said i hope all are OK i also said i saw two cars towing vans yesterday on the M6 fly past us while snaking i stand by what i said that im shocked at the way some people tow these days .

I did read it carefully thank you and it implied to me that speed was a factor.
blimey people whats going on here...Im sure there is no reason to reply to a perfectly non offensive post with such vehemency, i mean really, are we adults or hormonal teenagers here???
The original poster didnt say that the caravan in a ditch on the M6 was because of speed...she then went on to say that she had been overtaken by caravans towed at speed, two seperate comments in one post.
For what its worth Ive been surprised how gung -ho caravans are being towed so far this summer, we were overtaken by a couple towing one and doing over 70 on the m1.
I get enough sarcy comments and gobbing off at home by my teenage daughter...dont really need to read it on here as well!!
I agree with gill and it always saddens me when a traffic report mentions another caravan accident I would like to see a break down of caravan accidents and causes not to apportion blame but to find out what sequence of events resulted in the accident it's not all down to poorly maintained overloaded speeding vans and I'm sure a sensible non judgemental report would help us all
People don't realise the effect that other traffic can have on your own vehicle, especially when they come past you too close.
Years ago when we had the young family we regularly towed down to Cornwall from Northampton or Luton, and we would get over to the left by a few feet when being passed closely by trucks and coaches on the M5, to avoid the suction as they went by. They didn't notice it, but we certainly did!
Even now I consciously move over to the right of my lane when overtaking a caravan outfit with the car solo.
Traffic is running much faster now and accidents are so much more easily started.
