Beware the sat nav in a 2011 Tekna! Got mine in March and thought the whole HDD system was fab, especially the quality of the hands free, and the sat nav seemed fab when being used locally. In the same month I also got a 25 foot caravan and we started to 'tour'. One of our journies was from Formby to Anglesey, and this is where we encountered problems.
Firstly our outfit is too long for the tunnels, and since you cannot change a preference, the sat nav wanted to go under the Mersey. We ignored it and drove towards Chester, and twice on the motorway stretches the sat nav was asking us to negotiate roundabouts that had clearly not been there for some time. It also asked us a couple of times to keep left or right and on these occasions the verbal instructions were different than the lane displayed on screen, luckilly my wife spotted this and we remained on track.
Then for no apparent reason it took us over Snowdonia, and the weather was terrible too. It scared me to death, but since we had no atlas on board (last time we make that mistake!) we followed the nav :( .
Took the Tekna straight back to the dealers, and informed them that I had Googled 2011 update for the sat nav, and that they were available to purchase online. The dealer checked my system and told me that I have the latest map - 2010 version 1. I then explained all this again to Nissan customer services [sic] and a pleasant lady told me that since I bought in March 2011 the map would be up to date. I then tried to explain that the map was incorrect, and the system had issues, she told me that updates are issued every 3 to 4 years!!! I tried to explain that roads change daily, that the world might no longer be here in 3 to 4 years, AND that I can update maps on my TomTom iphone 4 app every day - FREE! She is to get back to me. Close to £30K on a car and since I have had TomTom from the first unit they produced, I have now spent £80 on a docking station for the iphone (enhances the GPS and has a decent speaker) and will use that until Nissan sort out the maps. Had to do this as next month we are off the Scotland and we cannot use the ferry service (again length of the outfit and steep roads) - and you have guessed, I have put the journey into the sat nav, and even when you ask for alternative routes, it still sends you to the ferry! My TomTom app on my phone warns you of the ferry crossing and asks if you want to use it!! (£50 for this app). I didn't want another sat nav as I also have a TomTom go for my wifes car, but Nissan offers no choice with the Tekna - they need to sought this out as I think they have bought a pup.
Good luck to you all!
------------- Stef and Mandy

Hi all, My Garmin nuvi has the latest up to date maps, last week took the new M74 extension to the M77, and sat nav went crazy trying to re-calculate route, and showing the car flying over fields, it turns out that maps can be as much as two years out of date in some cases, even with the so called up to date maps, Have found last years road map more up to date.
Hi stef and mandy, you will find that sat nav may not work around the Loch Lomond, can be a lot of sat nav blind spots. My old tom tom tried to take me across the Loch, I was on the west banks and wanted to go to Balmaha the east banks.
------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.
