Hi,Just wondered if you can help me. On our last caravan trip with our 17 year old Abbey Piper caravan and our 2.1 litre Peugot 307 diesel Car, there was some very strange creaking sounds coming from the front caravan. When we were driving slowly and particularly when turning a corner, there was a loud creaking noise. We have a bulldog style stabilser and the towbar is an old fashioned style where you need to put on grease. At first we thought that the problem might be a lack of grease, so we applied some more directly to towbar and I think it was fractionally better, but still very noisy. We checked that the caravan was secured and that the stabiliser was fastened correctly. Does anyone know what was causing the creaking sound?
Yep , it's your friction pads on the stabiliser , it won't do any harm to allow them to creak , but if you want to stop it you'll need to disassemble the stabiliser and clean the discs to remove any glaze , a light rub with wet and dry paper should do it . Take note of how to retension the stabiliser using bathroom scales ( see your stabiliser handbook ) .

Have you tried cleaning out all the old grease and cleaning the hitch out then re-applying new grease. Also try towing and turning on a carpark without the stabeliser on to see if it's that.
