What sort of price do people pay for insurance? I've been quoted £77.51 which is for £1500 van £300 awning £500 equiptment and £500 Contents £175 excess for storing at home thru the Caravan and Camping website. I'm well impressed with this but thinking it's too low. What price do cover for your stuff?

When you say the 'Caravan and Camping website', do you mean the Camping and Caravanning Club website? If so, then I think you can rest assured that it will give you a good, reliable service. By and large, insurance through either of the two main clubs is a good bet - not always the cheapest, but you can feel sure that you will be treated well if you need to claim.

We just paid £194 for the insurance on our first van. Its a 2007 Bailey Ranger and is insured for £8.5k (inc's extras and personal items, etc) with the caravan club. We found most companies were quoting us around £200 so ended up going with the CC as we joined them as members anyway and most people on here seem to say they give a good service if you ever need to claim

I have been with the C&CC insurance for the last couple of years having found them to be the cheapest for me.

I must be doing something terribly wrong!!

£442 insurance quote.

New for Old (£19K they tell me to replace similar model as ours no longer made Baily Senator Indiana 2009)

Storage site isn't CASSOA registered so guess that's had an effect and I only been towing for a year (well OH actually!)

I have every security device going plus a tracker (which also costs extra just to get 10% discount so wonder if worth cost?)

I know cost of new for old caravan must have a bearing on the insurance but i have hardly any equipment - no awning etc just usual gas, water bottles basic and cups linen etc.  Nothing flash!!

I can't believe the difference in cost!

£70 odd is about the lowest premium you can get for insuring caravans. In the event of a claim, unless you have a modern 'van with new for old, the 'van is worth what the insurance co. decides its worth with a bit of room for negotiation.

If a caravan is only worth a few £100s it ain't worth insuring it, imho. You are insured for 3rd party risks while towing on your car insurance.

Your premium is par for course for a caravan of that value, if your potential claim for a write off is £19k your premium is likely to be twice as high as for a caravan of half that value.

Obviously shop around for cheapest quote but you need to compare like with like. The figures quoted on this thread reflect the value of the caravans.

We've just had the C&CC renewal quote for our Olympus - £217.

The New-for-Old T&C's have changed and we will need to up the sum insured. Now the sum insured must be over 90% of the cost of the replacement van or it will revert to "market value" As the Olympus II is out at a slightly higher starting price we need to add an extra £1000 to the value.

remember to tell your insurer about the reduction in value of your caravan each year, some insurers dont take this into account and just send out an automatic renual letter.
i have done this for the last couple of years and the price has come down from the quote in the renewal reminder.

Littlejack 40 I have had a couple of quotes saga was £442.78

Caravan club £411 (plus £40 CC membership)

Tried my Building Society contents insurance that was a no go but they put me through to someone separate who quoted £501!!

I have been told its because the Bailey Indiana is no longer made so last year to replace like for like would have been £13K but this year the nearest model is a Pageant or Unicorn Madrid valued at £19K+.  which obviously puts premium up.

I eventually ended up with Caravan Guard new for old £284 or market value insurance £166.

Such a big difference even then makes you wonder what they base their quote on as the information given is exactly the same for each company??

Differing discounts some give for security on caravan, others don't take that into account but do take note of security on your storage.

I actually leave mine on a site and have it towed to a pitch and that's all It goes at the moment so one company reduced the quote by £60 as I wasn't towing anywhere but if I ever change my mind I need to increase it back up again if I take it off the site.  Seems fair enough but the quote was over £500 to start with!

I also thought that I got 10% for EACH item that qualified, like alarm, tracker, alko lock, hitch lock, CoASSA site etc etc.  It seems that they don't add it all together and give a total of 40% discount you just get the one 10% so you may as well save your money and have one item to qualify for the maximum 10% allowance.

Seems everyone wants to jump on the wagon of costs.

Added to that the tracker company fees were £39 last year this year £90 just to get the 10% discount makes you wonder if might as well just leave the tracker off it costs more to pay for tracker than to go without the 10% discount!  If someone nicks my van, I wouldn't want it back anyway I don't think not knowing what had been done/going on in it would give me the eebies anyway.

So looks like I will stay with Caravan guard again this year seems the cheapest for my circumstances.

Servicing has also varied by £100 due to travel costs for mobile .

Car insurance went up £100 - nothing different either to last year.

Seems a lotof things are going up by great leaps not just a couple of quid which we usually expect with inflation, but really unexpected jumps that I haven't budgeted for.

Is anyone else finding this or am I just turning into a Grumpy Old Woman lol

with the C& CC the minimum for an old caravan is £40odd  I checked last week for a 60's Cheltenham. OK the caravan may not be worth much but insurance is still needed in this day of suing culture. Your car ins will not cover it on a site.

Here is something that happened My friends had an uninsured old folding caravan. In a bad storm at Teversal the roof came off. Luckily it did not hit another caravan or a person but imagine if it had! Doesn't bear thinking about.
