hiya everyone. Having just bought my first caravan just wondering if someone can point me in the direction of a decent wheel clamp or just tell me if you think that are pointless.
The other thing as well as a clamp is I have a ball you put in the hitch like you turn the allen key so it widens the ball, when its tight you put a barrel lock in and lock it,
got one in all my trailers and caravans was about 20 quid just means they can't hitch on to anything
You can get them in Aldi from time to time. They have the same one in Argos. These are pretty useless for anything other than looking like a wheel clamp. If you jack the wheel up the clamp will slide under the wheel and pull out.
I have one of these which I modified so that it hooks over the top of the axle. You probably could still wriggle it out but you would need the wheel to be a lot higher.
I have yet to see a wheelclamp that couldn't be removed by a thief. I don't know how they get through them so quick, probably because they don't mind doing damage in the process. There is certainly no wheel clamp I know of that couldn't be defeated by an angle grinder and with inverters quite cheap now it is quite easy to pull along side with a car and grind through a wheel clamp without making nearly as much noise as it used to make with a petrol powered grinder or a generator.
A visible wheel clamp may well deter a thief, but personally I would say a length of chain attaching the axle to the ground is more likely to stop them. Once they move it into the middle of the road and discover it is chained down they suddenly attract a lot more attention than they did before the caravan had been moved.
The bulldog one ive got you have no chance of sliding it off the wheel because in the middle of the arms there is a huge nut that you tighten after you have set the arms and after that, the outside plate is put on and this must correspond with the arms.it is all locked together with a lock in the middle of the outside plate.

I've got a spare Bulldog Euroclamp which although is quite old, is in perfect working order with two keys. The only reason I don't use it is because it requires you to kneel to fit it and with two replacement knees, I'm not allowed to even attempt to kneel.
I'd be very happy to sell it to you for £15.00 if you're interested. The same clamp new I believe is over £60.00.
Insurance companies insist on AT LEAST a wheelclamp and hitchlock so it's not frivolous by any means.
