Does anyone ever try their inbuilt TV aerial before errecting an external aerial?
I had to laugh with amusement at the number of caravaners turning up at a site near Burnham last week, sometimes spending up to an hour errecting a TV aerial or satellite dish onto the van
We had arrived the previous day and got a perfect picture on our inbuilt van aerial (the flying saucer kind) without the need for any boosters or equipment, other than the TV itself
Just thought i'd try and save some people a bit of time :)
Like yourself Paul.Foers, I also enjoy the amusement of watching others mucking around for ages with aerials and dishes.
I generally find (contrary to others experience) that the Status 330 on my van works very well the great majority of the time and the external aerial only see's the light of day on odd occassions during the year.
I wonder how many users have tried the van aerial once, found it no good and simply decided that must be the norm regardless of where they are.
I also just have a saucer type aerial and it has a switch in the caravan. I have a cheap tv from argos with freeview and dvd included and I have never had a better picture and loads of channels

I try the status aerial on pretty much every site but find it as useless as a chocolate toothpick I am afraid.
There was an issue with the fitting of the coax plugs and this could well be contributory to your lack of signal. There's a small grub screw inside the plug (holds the inner conductor of the coax secure), but they're useless as sometimes they protrude too far and short out inside the plug to ground.
Remove the screw and fling it out and re-make the fitting.
I have had my status on the caravan for 9 years and have always given it a try, but up till recently it has been about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. However, in places where the analogue signal has been turned off and the digital signal turned up wonder of wonders I am finding that the status does a really good job. I was at New Quay on Cardigan Bay last week and two years ago in exactly the same spot ( to within a couple of yards ) I struggled to get a decent picture from any aerial whilst last week I turned the Status on, tuned the TV in and got a brilliant picture. The difference being that the old analogue signal is now gone.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Been upteen threads about this,it all depends on the signal and its strength they work in some areas and not in others its the same for many airials other than sat..
