Hi There,

We are completely new to caravanning having camped in a tent for the last 6 years or so.  We are looking to buy second hand and have noticed an Adria Altea 542 (DK I think) 2007 which would be ideal for our family (2 adults and 2 children) but it has no oven.  Does anyone know if these can be purchased and fitted on later and who you would get to do this?

Many Thanks,

Jenny

yes you can retro fit the oven in place of the drawer below the sink, but then you loose vital storage space. We also have the 542 UK with no oven and have not found it to be a problem in the last three years, it just means finding new ways of cooking.

We bought the Cadac Safari chef BBQ and would not be without it now, along with the roasting pan. We cook everything on this from pancakes to roast beef and chicken with no problems at all. Like you we are 2 adults and 2 children. I think not having the oven makes you eat more healthily whilst away anyway. Also invested in a George Foreman grill aswell. As for the van cannot complaint about that either.

Our 2005 Adria Altea 502DK had an oven fitted as an option when we bought it in 2007. It fits into a cupboard space under the sink so you lose the use of that cupboard but was not a problem as there was loads of storage.

Are you buying from a dealer, if so ask if fitting one is an option.

You are probably looking at a 542UK as they didn't produce the DK until the 2009 model.

That was our first van and I wouldn't bother with the oven. If you are running of EHU then the TV cupboard will take a combination oven/Microwave and the TV can go on a LCD arm. It was a great van. Make sure they show you how to put up the front bed properly otherwise gaps start appearing in the night. There is a trick with the order of the cushions

Thanks for your replies, it's a van privately advertised and we have been advised to get it serviced before making an offer? the sellers say they have never had it serviced yet which seems a bit strange to me.  Not seen the van yet so hopefully get a chance at the weekend.

That is strange as you need to keep up the servicing to keep up the 5 year water ingress warranty. It will be probably at the end of that anyway and the Adria's very rarely have damp problems but you should still have a damp test done. You should at least get the gas and flue system checked!
