We have covered every available space in our (admittedly small) bongo with throws, rugs, covers etc. We did the same when we had the caravan. Lifted carpets and threw throws and covers over everything. The bongo still stinks with wet dog when he he has been in the rain but, que sera, it can be cleaned, I'm not that fussed. And I'm saying that because for me it would be more bother than it is worth trying to keep everything doggy smell free. When the time comes to sell on it will get a super duper clean.

Hi Tina, just read your great blog
and thank GOD someone with the same attitude to their dogs as me.

just in case theres any mis-understanding   our little mutt is only DRIED off with a towel in the awning, when the heaviest is off, he's got his own little corner in the 'van, after all he is part of the family, he's not allowed on the furniture at home same rule applies in the 'van.

Our dog is definately an old man dog now.  He sleeps next to our bed in the house, and next to our bed in the van.

He can sulk like an old man aswell, if I dared to put him outside, he'd defately let us know his dis satisfaction Lol.

At 12 you want to take as much care of them as you can aswell.  You start to realise they are not going to be there for ever, so want to enjoy their company as much as you can.

Lots of things you can do if keeping in the awning including well covered cages/kennels and heaters if on ehu.  We find in bad weather that we still keep the dogs in the awning by day, especially after a wet walkies however they sleep inside in their baskets at night.  that way they are only coming in when fairly dry and sleepy.   Anything less than bad weather then they stay in the awning.

We have just bought new beds/soft crates for them that are great for camping.

Folds flat, fairly cheap and is easy to transport.  You cant tell on this photo but the bed/crate is huge as the dog we have in there is a rottie cross and quite big!  I can sit upright in there with my legs fully stretched out and small children could sleep in there lol.

It is also soft enough to squeeze into smaller spaces in your caravan too and can be zipped up to contain hair, or use in the awning with light weight fleeces flung over the top too for extra warmth.  Your two would easily fit in there together and may also fit in the next size down togther too.

the same place we got this from also does a really cheap budget version that may not be warm enough for the awning but would be great for using inside the caravan to keep the hairs and mud enclosed.  You could even leave doors open for dogs not crate trained.  Comes in different sizes.
