At Whitby at the moment, spent about an hour and a half trying to set up a 60cm dish - changed LNB's, patch leads, had assistance from another sat. user; could get a signal strength of about 70 but zero quality all the time - finally switched back to old faithful, the Aldi Tevion 35cm dish - two minutes - 400plus TV channels!
I'm beginning to wonder why I bought the larger dish - there's only a couple of times that I haven't ended up using the Aldi dish...

quality comes from the dish angle being in the vertical position.found from going to various places the correct position seams to be vertical with no lean forward or backwards.

Success I manged to get it to work.... dish is almost vertical and once lined up with compass and the wife watching the signal and quality scales but after alot of messing and re-tightening of the fixing screw. Thanks for all the responses....
Sorry to seem a bit of a bozo, but when you say the dish is almost vertical, just exactly what do you mean? Is the dish at right angles to the ground or is the arm with the LNB almost vertical?
I'm not a techno geek and these things always leave me completely dumbfounded and exhausted.

As a rough explanation, the dish is a mirror, reflecting the signal beamed from the sky down onto the LNB,, so while the source (satellite) is higher than the horizon, the target (LNB) is below the horizon; therefore the dish is angled between the two.
If you experiment with dishpointer.com, you'll find the further south you are, the higher the satellite is and the further back toward horizontal your dish would need to be - for example, Reyjavik, elevation is only 7.6 degrees, while Gibraltar is 35.2, Tripoli 48.4, and Eilat 54.7 - if you were far enough south, your dish could be almost flat, but even in those listed above, as the signal is a directed beam, you wouldn't actually receive any signal....
