We have taken a flying visit today down to the Bridlington CC site, mainly to do a reccy ready for next years bookings
The original plan was for us to move on down for a week after we leave the site were on now, but with various family commitments looming, and daughters wedding in 2 weeks time, we have decided to return early next spring instead.
The site is laid out in a similar open plan to the Sandringham site, except it does lack any planting between units at the moment and is looking like further fencing work may have to be carried out during the winter months especially where pitches back onto eachother. One thing we were not keen on is the lack of individual hardstandings in some parts, where a hardstanding patch was shared between two or three caravans, I can se potential problems with that idea if someone decides to park too far over with their car or erects a large awning wich would easily encroach onto the neighbouring pitch.
It was nice to se that one of the neighbours had already taken advantage of the season by placing a barrow of home produced goods such as honey, eggs and fruit, apples, pears and plums with a honesty box near the site entrance. There were some grass pitches available but these were further back from the road and behind an original hedgerow. Access and exit to the site is via an electronic barrier, and theres a couple of visitors car parking spaces adjacent to the wardens office, one of which is marked as a disabled space.
Its obvious by the appearences that this site needs time to mature, especially in the planting of dividing hedgerows and some shelter from the prevailing winds, its still very much an open field, but we are looking forward to trying a week there next year, but for now OH much prefares the layout and relative shelter of the CC West Ayton site.

Have not been for years, our twin girls were about three the last time and they would not walk on the promenade as is looked sparkly and they said it looked like toasty bits.
A fair few million has been spent on the promenades these last ten years getting rid of the old and bringing in the new.
nice harbour area
...and its the biggest shellfishing port in the UK (in terms of catch)
They even catch Sea bass from the beach these days and sell it in the shop on the harbour the same day it has been caught. You can't get fresher...you must give that a try
hoping there's a plenty to see and do ?
Just from the CC site turn left, down the road a couple of hundred yeards past the Golf Course turn right into Danes Dyke, down to the bottom (near the beach) trun left and just walk along the cliff top to the lighthouse at Flamborough Head. Lunch outside the cafe looking out across the cliffs and Bay. October time migrating birds can be spotted off the coast. Walk back along the road through the village back to the camp site. Well that's day one taken care of!
Day two - Walk down the golf course road, round the clubhouse and onto the public footpath heading south. You come out at Sewerby Hall. You can spend a good day in there just wandering around the gardens, zoo and house. See the Amy Johnson collection. She came from Brid (I don't care what the Hull folk claim!!). Lunch outside the cafe or pop outside of the grounds to the Ship Inn.
Day three - as day two but carry on past Sewerby Hall, walk along the cliff top, down into Brid. Wonderful views right across the bay towards Withernsea from the cliff top. Down to the Harbour with lunch at Jeromes on the sea front. Catch the Land Train back to Sewerby Hall and walk back through the Golf course to the CC site
Yep......just leave the car at the site (save fuel) and enjoy the Heritage Coast

we were there last weekend, stayed on the poplars site at sewerby ,again, great little site with added bonus of the pub ' the martonian' right next door , good beer good food and reasonably priced too , you can even order your meals to take away if you want to eat 'at home', theres an excellent chippie only 10 mins walk away and another smashing pub, 'the ship' which also does really good reasonably priced food.
you can walk along the scenic cliff top pathway or ride the land train into Brid'.
since we took up caravanning (mid 2009), Brid' has become one of our favoured destinations as it's only a 2 hr drive from home, mind you we love the east coast anyway and have stayed at robin hoods bay several times, have also camped at flambro' ,filey, whitby and scarbro' but those visits were in tents so will be re-treading our steps with the 'van
p.s. to be honest ,we like poplars so much ,i can't see us using any other site for our Bridlington trips ,CC or not and yes we are members

We also passed a large Co-op supermarket en route to the site, as well as several smaller shops and businesses, hairdressers, takeawys ect, that are mainly there to serve the vast housing estate that edges the Marton village. Theres also a fairly big community school nearby, so the roads do get quite busy during the school run which we hit on our return trip about 3pm.
One other thing we noticed quite near to the site were some large Chicken sheds, although theire was no hint of any odour from these during our visit on a cool and dull day, im wondering if the same could be said regarding a visit on a hot and humid midsummers afternoon, or during mucking out times. the smell of the countryside is one thing that you expect on a rural site, but when that turns into a quite pungent pong which encourages flies then i may think twice before parting with my hard earned cash.
We love the area, and have been regular visitors for many years, but OH is now determined to either keep using the West Ayton site or a small CL near Filey which we used to visit with our last caravan, theres definately more of a scenic approach to West Ayton than there is to the Bridlington site with its housing estates en route to the entrance.
