Thanks Phil for all that info - very useful as we usually only spend a day trip to Bridlington from Scarborough so its goning to be good to spend a week there exploring!

Have not been for years, our twin girls were about three the last time and they would not walk on the promenade as is looked sparkly and they said it looked like toasty bits.

A fair few million has been spent on the promenades these last ten years getting rid of the old and bringing in the new.

nice harbour area

...and its the biggest shellfishing port in the UK (in terms of catch)

They even catch Sea bass from the beach these days and sell it in the shop on the harbour the same day it has been caught. You can't get fresher...you must give that a try

hoping there's a plenty to see and do ?<!-- Message body -->

Just from the CC site turn left, down the road a couple of hundred yeards past the Golf Course turn right into Danes Dyke, down to the bottom (near the beach) trun left and just walk along the cliff top to the lighthouse at Flamborough Head. Lunch outside the cafe looking out across the cliffs and Bay. October time migrating birds can be spotted off the coast. Walk back along the road through the village back to the camp site. Well that's day one taken care of!

Day two - Walk down the golf course road, round the clubhouse and onto the public footpath heading south. You come out at Sewerby Hall. You can spend a good day in there just wandering around the gardens, zoo and house. See the Amy Johnson collection. She came from Brid (I don't care what the Hull folk claim!!). Lunch outside the cafe or pop outside of the grounds to the Ship Inn.

Day three - as day two but carry on past Sewerby Hall, walk along the cliff top, down into Brid. Wonderful views right across the bay towards Withernsea from the cliff top. Down to the Harbour with lunch at Jeromes on the sea front. Catch the Land Train back to Sewerby Hall and walk back through the Golf course to the CC site

Yep......just leave the car at the site (save fuel) and enjoy the Heritage Coast

Phil

Sounds really great Phil. But you forgot to mention a visit to Bray's Fisheries on Lansdowne Road(just off the prom) Voted Best in Brid by the people of brid these are the finest 'Traditional' fish and chips you can buy!

I've saved this thread in my favorites!

Can't wait to go - only got a month to wait! Going to Hawes in 2 weeks time too! We usually go further down the east coast to Sandilands and we've had some fab weather there in October, so here's hoping ..

If fish and chips are your thing and you want to eat in then try the Dolphin Restaurant on the Harbour. The most delicate batter and fish meat like cream.

If you want to be posh on a night then its up stairs at Rags Restaurant with a table over looking the harbour. I would recommend the Sea Bass. Straight off the beach into the pan. My mum, who lives on the Wirral, says its the best she has ever had.

To Rags, walking across the harbour, you will be walking in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia who used to patrol on that part of the harbour as part of his RAF rescue role during the war. He was known then as T.E. Shaw to avoid the publicity he had gained as Lawrence of Arabia.

Interesting bit of history there Phil. I walked right round the harbour at Easter and wrote about it, with photos, in my blog - knowing that now I can edit the relevant bit and include it.

We are now at the end of our week here at Bridlington CC site. We loved our week at this site despite there being some electrical problems earlier in the week, we will definitely use it again, probably instead of West Ayton. which is our usual base!

We have only visited Bridlington for a day trip before so it was nice to spend some time here, and we loved it. Loved walking down to Danes Dyke - didn't take the walk to Flamborough Head this time Phil, weather has been against us! But we will on a future trip. Loved walking along the cliffs at Sewerby and into Brid! Loved exploring the town centre. Hubby enjoyed fishing from the pier, while i explored the shops - loved Boyes, wish we had one nearer to us!

Wardens are very friendly despite a trying time with the electric. We will definitely return but probably earlier in the year. We didn't find the site too 'open' - despite the wind;, the showers were fab; dog walk probably could've done with a better surface to the path as it got quite muddy.
