I need to renew my car insurance, can anybody recommend someone that will cover the van whilst towing regardless of length. Our van is over 7m and the firm we were with only cover up to 7m. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
For comprehensive cover for the caravan, it is my understanding that you need seperate caravan insurance.
Your car insurance should allow you to tow (but it is always best to check), If you have an accident and it is your fault, you will not be able to claim for repairs/replacement of the van from your car insurance, in any case. If it is proven that the other persons is at fault then you would claim against the other persons car insurance ( - at least that's the theory anyway, but you would be fighting this one yourself). You would be advised to take out seperate insurance for the caravan so that you would be covered for accident/ theft etc. If there were a problem your caravan insurance company would then pay up and claim back through the other persons car insurance.
We have both our car and caravan insured through the caravan club. They are not the cheapest, but the quality of the cover is worth the extra, IMHO. It is a bit complicated, but I hope this has been a little useful.
