Hi, we have seen a 2006 model for sale and have googled and seen that some of these vans had front panel problems. Not sure of this year was affected? Does anyone have any further info on this please?
Also, there are no front drawers in this model, has anyone found this a problem at all? We won't really need storage as it's only for 2.
Thanks in advance
------------- Are you sure you've read the instructions?
Our 2006 series 5 ranger 470/4 didn't have a cracked panel, but from memory there was an issue with the mastic requiring a new panel to be fitted. It was all done under warranty.
Any 2006 bailey with a full service history will still have a water ingress warranty (ensure it is a 2006 reg not just a 2006 model year which starts from about Aug 2005) as the 6 year warranty starts from registration date.
2006 covered both the pre series 5 model & the series 5, the ones with the red interior are the earlier ones, series 5 models have a blue interior.
Re the chest, the front seats are too small for a chest, if a chest was there then the seats & bed area would be tiny. As the caravan has a side dinette you have a small table to have breakfast at so the lack of chest is not too much of an issue.
There was an issue with the production of the GRP panels on the range, which were replaced under warranty, but I'm fairly certain the issue was prior to your van of choice, possibly '04 to early '05.
Michael's pretty up to speed with this issue so hopefully he'll spot the thread.
I think it was the 04/05's if I can remember so a 2006 will be ok :)

I purchased a baileys ranger in 2005 just been told it as damp in the right hand corner, this problem stems from cracks that have developed on the front panel.a caravan engineer told me it was a factory fault with baileys, when they screw the awning rail on they just screw into the plastic front panel without pre drilling this causes the plastic to split
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I would like to clarify this. the stress cracking of ABS plastic front & rear panels was not confined to Bailey caravans Coachman among several others manufactures were also affected. The panels were made by a plastics company (whose name escapes me) who finally went out of business.
Of all the caravan manufacturers affected Bailey were the only ones who replaced affected panels for the full 6 year warranty period with the proviso that the van had been serviced within the requirements of their warranty.
Bailey were the only company who revised their methods of construction (Alutec)where as some other makers simply wrote panel cracks out of their warranty
the period over which this fault occurred was aprox 2004 to 2008 on all manufacturers vans,& has not been totally resolved on traditionally constructed caravans if some forum reports are correct
I am currently sat in our 2007 Ranger 470/4 on the Norfolk Broads and would have no problem recomending it as a van. There are others that we preferred but unfortunatly we were very limited in towing weight so, without changing the car, it was the best option for us. There is the two of us and our 8 month old and the van is about right for our needs. We have said that if number 2 comes along we might consider changing for a bit more space but that depends on if we change cars in the meantime. OH loves the end bathroom and large wardrobe / shower and moving it around is really easy as its so light!
Can anyone tell me how wide is the ranger 470/4 front double when made up? Have hunted the internet to no avail. On paper seems like the ideal van for us. Don't fancy driving miles to view if the bed is too narrow.
Thanks in anticipation
