After 39 years of caravanning and 11 vans i owned 2 elddis which both had damp before 2 years old.Put me off any more elddis for good.Even if resealed under warranty once damp is in it is never 100% eliminated as some moisture remains trapped.

I think its a tough question to answer as you are going to hear bad stories about all caravan brands.  We have a 2009 Lunar and are really pleased with it (touch wood) no problems yet and the interior is like new but we do like the look of the Barcelona I've heard good things about the new Pegasus.   Don't know much about Elddis but I know that people on here absolutely rave about them.  If you are buying new why don't you go to the NEC in October and then you can compare them almost side by side.

You will get good and bad in most models but try to take a look at the build quality across a few from the manufacturers you have selected. Shows are probably not the best place to check on build quality as they 'vans will have been prepared for the shows and any minor defects spotted and rectified. The shows are good for getting a feel for the models and the options - they love it when I lay down to look under the 'van and it is a sure fire way of getting a sales persons attention

I have a Delta RS 2010 and am very pleased with it and also with the dealers support when selecting additional options such as mover, auto change over for the gas and a couple of extra electrical sockets (all at a very reasonable price and cheaper than doing it myself).

We bought a Lunar Delta RS in January and we love it.

Always had Sterlings before but the Delta is great.

The Elddis has the fixed double on the offside.  If we open the window at night, I generally prefer to open into the awning, but it's personal preference.  The Bailey, of course has alutech, but has a small front locker (we can still get our broom and aquaroll in our 2009 Bailey Sancerre, but we'd have to find another place if we had an Alutech).  The Lunar has the lightest MTPLM and the Elddis is the heaviest, but little difference between the Elddis and Bailey.  IMHO the Bailey looks the most stylish (both outside and in).  The Bailey also has the largest fixed bed, then the Lunar, then the Elddis.

If you make the front into a double, Then the Bailey comes out as the smallest, the Lunar is the largest with the Elddis in the middle.  Use the front as singles, and the vans are more complicated to compare.  Bailey has one side bigger than the other so will take a 6'3" the one side and a 5'10" the other.  The Lunar will take 2 x 6'1" and the Elddis 2 x 6'.  This will also give you a guide as to the seating area.

The three vans have a front chest, but I think it might be optional/extra on the Bailey (not sure).  The Bailey has a tapered wardrobe, which I quite like, but I don't think the others do.  The Bailey will have more headroom than the other two.

The user payload of the Bailey is 163kg, and 160kg for the Lunar.  But you can get slightly more stuff in the Elddis at 168kg.  All this is on paper of course!

They are three good vans whichever way you look at it, and it would be largely down to down to any of the comparisons.  If it were me, I would probably go for the Unicorn, on the basis of a larger fixed bed (there are only 3 of us).  I like the styling of the van, but would certainly have to rethink the way I store things.

Don't know if that's much help, but something in it might help you make up your mind.  If it's down to price, then I think the Elddis is the cheapest list price and the Lunar is the most expensive.

As has been said above I would go to the NEC where you will be able to hop from one to another and compare them properly to see what suits you the best. If you cant decide then you should consider how far from the dealer you are from an aftersales point of view.

We have just bought our first 'van, an Elddis (2004 Avante 505) and are very impressed with the build quality, it flew through its annual service with just a dicky gas regulator. We did not go looking for an Elddis - but the layout suited us and it feels well made compared to others we saw. We did look at a new Bailey Orion out of curiosity (outside our budget to be honest) but we were shocked by the (lack of) build quality. The furniture felt cheap and there were lots of exposed screw heads.

Our neighbours have a 6 year old Bailey Pageant which is very stylish, better built than the Orion we saw and has a great layout for them.

Luck of the draw I guess - but you should be ok with a new one?

Good comparison David. The Lunar has 6'5" headroom btw.

Good point about the distance from the dealer.  Although I like the new Pegasus and Unicorn, but not keen on the Orion, for us.  Anyway, for the moment, we're really happy with the Sancerre.

Zipster,i think the best way would be to take your list of vans around several dealers (as many as you can)and compare all the second hand vans you can find   this way you will be able to see witch ones have weathered the best over the years.
you will always get for and against for all makes of van but the test of time is the best way to go.

of all those you've chosen I'd say Lunar, there always seem to be too many quality problems reported about Bailey and whilst the Unicorn has a lovely interior the outside is so boring! I've never been interested in Elddis'es because they look so old-fashioned inside and out but the new ones look a little better, maybe go look at them at the show.
