I'm still deciding if I really need to go to the October NEC show. I'm not looking for anything in particular. Definitey won't by buying a new van for several years. We've got most things we need for the van, but might just spot the odd item that 'I just don't know how we've lived without'. I know it's less than 30 minutes from home and less than a tenner to get in, and I do like to have a look. Do I stay or do I go? What are you doing this year?

Im watching this space to see what kind of van you come back with... never got your email David..
Definitely no new van. No money left!! - all spent on booze!
Seriously. Can't understand why you haven't had an email. I have sent three now. Only got one of yours though, but I am using the address on your email. Most odd.
I think that the NEC is just a fools paradise really. If you decide to go to the NEC then you have the temptation to spend money on additional items that you probably don't need anyway and not always a bargain as people like to make out especially when they have paid an admission fee just for the privelage to spend their own money. They also rip you off for the price of refreshments very much like motorway services and most drivers try to avoid these due to the rip off prices. If you are going to look at the prospect of buying a new caravan or motorhome then it's understandable that folk want to see the various layouts before parting with a few grand.
Last year we went to the show just because we were down there for the horse of the year show a few days before. We weren't looking to change our van for a few years, but came back having purchased a new van.
This year we are going down just for the day out, but to get my oh and dd to go, I had to buy tickets for the musical 'legally blonde'.
we're still going despite buying a new to us van yesterday. For the fiver admission (Tues only voucher in last months CC mag) its a decent day out. We want to look at awnings and like to look at the european site stands and stalls etc. We always take our own lunch and drinks (dragged around in one of those trolleys everyone ends up buying) and we always stop at a great pub on the way home for a meal. Its a day out without the kids and I could look at caravans and related accessories til the cows come home.

herself an meself will go because it's a great day out, love seeing all the new stuff but I can't see us being tempted by a new van, we love the current one. Might look into an awning, we've played with the idea for a bit for when we're away for longer periods, not for just weekends, she is quite keen, me not so much, but then i'll have to put it up!
We're going this year, the first time since 2007 when we were thinking of buying our first caravan and wanted to suss out what was on offer. We don't want to change our van, and even if we did we would get another Continental one, and the NEC show doesn't have many, but there are still lots of interesting things to see. We want to look at motorhomes - not that we could afford one, but we can see they offer an attractive alternative to caravanning.
------------- Il vaut mieux vivre ses reves que rever sa vie
We looove going to the NEC - we like to keep abreast of new models, layouts and latest technology going into the new vans. We visit the foreign sites stands and just basically enjoy it as a day out - the kids like it too, we won't be spending anything but will enjoy looking!
I'm becoming inclined to go. Wife and daughter don't want to go so I think i will go midweek when they are both at school. I might not buy anything but it's nice to look.
I won't be going - too far - but if it was nearer hone I definately would just for the day out and to get a camping fix!
We used to pay money most years to go to the Scottish exhibition which is absolutely mince. We gave it a miss this year and don't know if I'll go in February (dealers and retailers take note - up here we are not happy with the miserable choices on offer or the pathetic attempt at an exhibition which has got worse over the years!!). So it would be nice to go to a decent exhibition.
I, as you Dave its just down the road, It takes longer to get in than to drive there. I must admit have been looking at getting a double step and would like to change my Scenic plus for another porch due to my greyhound taking up 2/3rds of it. But as someone else said you have to be careful you dont get ripped off. I bought a set of pans a couple of years ago the handles quick release they are brilliant better than the house ones keep going every year but never sold them again, We take a packed lunch and just have a mooch plus we must walk several miles. Mind you I would like to set fire to the people selling those folding boxes on wheels that everyone buys (still got the bruises from last year)

I prefer going to the outdoor show in February, at least everything is catered for there not just caravans and motorhomes.
Three things get up my nose & put us off going last year,
One, the attitude of some of the people staffing the stands, they look down there noses at you when they realise you're not going to buy their products.
Two, the restrictions put on viewing some of the items on show there, as far as I'm concerned, if you want to put your fifth wheel van or your big yatch on a stand at a show which charges for admission, those visiting should be free to look at it.
Third, why can't the NEC provide somewhere for those paying to get in to be able to sit down and eat their packed lunch? Not everyone want's to take out a mortgage to eat there but people shouldn't have to be sitting on the floor to eat their food.
