Living on the edge of the Peak District has excellent points! Our favourite site is only 15 miles away so we go as often as we can, no dreading the drive home either
we go up to an hour away, hour and a half if we really like a place, otherwise it feels like the quick break is more of a driving holiday. we'll take more days off to go further afield.
Went away last weekend. Got back from work at 6.30 on Friday and left at 7.00 with an hours drive to the site. All hooked up and settled by 8.45 pm. We had a great weekend and a nice night out on Saturday. I have to say the weekend felt longer and I was refreshed at work on Monday. 60 miles from home is probably the limit for us on such a short stay. Just nice to spend time with the family away from the 'rat race'. We think the van is the best thing we've ever bought as we've had such a good time in it.
Everyone is different, so each to their own! If people don't want short weekend trips, that's more pitches left empty for us. I find myself getting withdrawl symptoms if we don't get away in the 'van at least every four weeks.
I never get the caravan out for less than four days, it just seems too much trouble! I was always going away for weekends in the campervan I used to own, but with a caravan to hook up/pitch/get home/pitch again, I found I hadn't recovered from all the setting up and it only seemed like minutes before I was back on the road home.
However, If you have a job to go to, then a weekend away would be worth the trouble, but like others have said, min 4 mights for me, and longest distance for that so far has been 160 miles.
We are thinking of driving approx 125 miles this Saturday
to recce a camp site for next year. Might take the Beta 450 + minimal catering kit and stay for one night. Then drive back on the Sunday.

It takes us 20 minutes or so just to get off Anglesey so we would normally travel to somewhere like Llangollen but we do go a little further if we can get an early finish from work.
We have started taking the van to work in the morning so we can make a quicker getaway.

60-90mins otherwise it's too much travelling for a short break.
Friday-Monday long weekend I'll do up to 3 hours.
It makes sense by my skewed rule of travel:chillout ratio.
We go away quite a few weekends but not more than an hour away. As long as we're away in the caravan we feel like we've had a break even if we haven't gone far. We go much further for holidays, like this summer towed to the South of France.
