thanks phil thought of another at tea (sad or what) if you do not have the bulk head regulator place regulator in an old sock and tie up to keep out any tiny spiders or bugs that can block up the holes at next use.

As well as many of the above we also wrap old towels round the taps to try and prevent freezing as theyre expensive to replace. Dont know if it makes much difference but we feel we've tried!

Which taps are you referring to? if all the water from the van is drained down, the taps should not freeze, or are you talking about different taps, please reply I am worried now that I have taps that might freeze..........
Eevn draining down there is the potential for some dops to be left hanging around somewhere so just take as many precautions as you can. Everything was OK in my van after the last winter so I reckon that all that I did last year is the bench mark against the worst of all weathers.

unless the whole system is drained, and with the best will in the world there will be some water left in the pipes or taps.anything you can do to prevent freezing of the caravan components is good.i place foam packing pieces all round the truma water heater for instance and cover with a blanket,(£600) to replace.after opening the taps you could place an old thick sock over it to prevent the cartridge freezing,if it has one.the shower pipe pull it all out and leave it hanging down with the shower head removed.leave plugs in all drains to stop smells also stop beetles/spiders.i spray fly killer under all the beds and in the cupboard bases to kill any bugs picked up in the fields.i am lucky that i can remove all cushions and store in the loft in old bed speads.

One thing that baffles me is,we take all the precautions and a lot of people dont, and they get no damage at all, evan vans lying in dealer forecourts seem to escape damage..perhaps its that old saying,if its not broke dont fix it..

just luck really.a lady bought a caravan a couple of weeks ago from a dealer that had stood for some time and the tap was split.with ice expanding at 8 to 1 some damage must be forthcoming if water is present.plus the number of post we get on here about frost damage must tell you to try and prevent it.

My van stays on the drive with an oil filled radiator on permanently. The battery is permanantly on an optimiser charger. I roll the van up and down a few feet to make sure the tyres are in different positions every week or so. The handbrake is exercised too, some times on, sometimes off with chocks. Steadies are heavily greased and wound up and down occassionaly. Water, gas and electrics 12/240v are used every other week. Jockey wheel gets exercised too.
The van is ready to go as soon as I've unplugged the mains cable from the garage
