My van is a 1990 Swift Corvette. It had bad damp problems when I bought it it. I used the recommended sealants when resealing the skylights - ribbon mastic. I used the recommended bonding sealants on the offside wall which was completely removed along with the insulation foam - Soudal Fix-all. The awning rail and other railings were sealed with ribbon mastic, as per Swifts recommendations. Sikaflex is good, I've used it on a car, but Soudal is the one recommended by Swift.
My rebuilt caravan has been entirely watertight for two years after its overhaul which I did myself using the recommended methods, and I expect it to last another 20 years. For information - I was quoted at £3000 to repair it professionally. I spent £150 on materials, and the rest was my labour, in my spare time. Quite therapeutic, actually.
Good luck OP with your endevours. Incidentally, my original problem with a leaking skylight was caused by a repair using silicon around it instead of it being lifted out and a new mastic seal put in.
