My new van has a larger alko type jockey wheel, my old van just had a skinny little wheel that lifted up into the A frame housing but this new one is only an inch off the ground if under the housing. Does this type sit up against the A frame on the outside of the plastic A frame cover? Thanks!
you could have major problems with speed bumps at the sites.i would remove when towing as damage could expensive.it sounds like it should fit at the side of the A frame.

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

If you can turn it a bit & get it as high as poss on the outside of the cover as you describe then do that. Is the jockey wheel inflatable or large solid plastic? These types while making 'van easier to push around often do not fit properly on older 'vans so if you can't get it high enough you might have to get a smaller wheel.
Otherwise as suggested, remove while towing. Bit of a faff tho.
Thanks for the replies, after a bit of internet research I think it is actually meant to sit on the outside of the A frame, it is secure and a good height when wound up there, it is a side mounted clamp too so might be correct position. It's an inflatable tyre and there doesn't seem any room for any size wheel under the frame, it doesnt look as neat but looks like it should be on the outside, if anyones is the same please reassure me! During my research I came across a few sites that say it is actually illegal to tow without jockey wheel, has anyone heard of this?
With a side mounted clamp the wheel needs to sit as high as possible against outside frame. With the original wheel it would have fitted in neatly but with the inflatable tyre it will have to be turned out a bit. If you cannot get it high enough you will have to get a narrow wheel.
I've no idea if its illegal to have no jockey wheel while towing.
I've been towing trailers for over 50 years and owned a caravan for 34 and never heard of it being illegal to tow without a jockey wheel. Sounds like nonsense to me !!!!
