IH Leisure have been building motorhomes for around 20 years, but have now developed a brand new caravan range. Looks wise the Monopod 660 is a striking departure from the normal caravans we're used to seeing on the roads and campsites for years, and combines some clever manufacturing techniques with stunning design features.
Monopod 600

The Monopod, with its 3 vertical panoramic windows at the front and large horizontal picture window at the rear, was launched at the 2011 International Caravan & Motorhome Show at the NEC.

As you can see from the photos the exterior is very different from traditional caravan design. The interior feels very luxurious and boasts rich and contrasting woods, with large airy cabins.

Monopod 600

The IH Monopod 660 - launched with a price of £41,995 - is a 21 feet 6 inch caravan which weighs in at 1580kg. Reminiscent of the iconic US Airstream caravans, the Monopod 660’s sleek aerodynamic lines and iridescent paint job guarantee that you’ll be noticed when you pull into a caravan site.

Monopod 600

The name derives from the one-piece monocoque GRP body shell, a construction technique that supports structural load by using the external skin, as opposed to using an internal frame that is then covered with a non-load-bearing skin.

Monopod 600

The Monopod 660 is currently offered in three different floor plans:

4 berth with central galley kitchen
4 berth with rear fixed bed (1930mm long x 1400mm wide/6ft 4" x 4ft 7" wide )
4 berth with rear bathroom and side dinette
Monopod 600

IH Leisure have launched a new website which should contain more details as they are released, and also has their contact details should you wish to arrange a viewing, or request more information.

I saw it on tv last night, nice caravan, but £42,000, i thought it looked a bit to narrow inside, i think it would have been better at the new maximum width

Agreed.

Looks nice - but £42000 why is it so dear? You could have a lot of holidays for that.

Does not look that special inside compared to the striking exterior. Think I'll stick with my trusty second hand 'van for the time being.

Ah but they'll paint it in the same colour as your towcar. One in Skoda's Corrida Red please

I like it and if money was no object it would be the van I would get.  With a bit of luck they might start making versions at far lower prices in the future.

It may look very nice but I suspect not very practical unless you only want it for the odd weekend away. Such things as external storage, gas lockers and don't even thing about an awning. A bit like their coachbuilt motorhomes which would be useless for any longer trips abroad.

Perhaps there is but I've just emptied our Abbey after a 6 week trip to france  ready to take it in for a service and took out:

2 Lafuma chairs, 2 Coleman chairs, Table, Wastemaster, washing up bucket, 10 litre water container, windbreak., Toilet stuff. ect

The front locker still contains 2 13kg and 1 10kg gas bottles

The IH Motorhome has little storage and if I remember room for 1 6kg gas bottle. The caravan looks similar in that they only look fit for a weekend at a caravan club site and not an extended trip abroad.

But if anyone wants to pay £40k to look good them they are welcome.

Mike
