I think you may find that the policy says that your van is insured whilst it is used by the "insured" rather than "me". "The Insured" is defined in the policy and generally it extends to any person who is normally resident with the insured, spouse, member of the family etc. Check the definitions clause in your policy. Think you will find that you are OK.
Anyway, who was driving generally only applies when claiming under motor insurance rather than caravan insurance....unless you are (a) insured with a company that does not follow the norm!! or (b) Hubby is not insured to drive the car
On a general point, it is better, if hubby is the only insured driver of the car, to have the caravans insurance in his name to avoid any potential inadvertent conflicts. Maybe change the policy into his name at renewal time.
When you check with the office this am you will probably find that will want to investigate a repair of the van first before talking about new for old. Don't panic they will just be following process.
