Well my take is the BP is best but the Calorlite the more available.
BP because you are in no doubt about the gas quantity left and importantly you can get a decent 10 kg size; down side is the retailers are not on every corner.
Calor is much more available but I have been stuck in that a retailer could not exchange my empty lite for a full lite only a full heavy 6kg; dare not let go of it as I could have faced starting another rental contract at the next exchange. So that puts real question marks on its true availability. Its level gauge only cuts in at <50% and even then is pathetic; need to shake bottle to un-stick it on occasions.
I have heard that another plus with the BP is that if stuck in France you can rent a "Le-Cube" at most garages and still use your pigtail connector?

If you already have Calor bottles I can't see the sense in changing to BP. If you are starting from scratch you need to consider whether the BP's will fit in your gas locker. I use Calor Lite in the van but have a 10kgs BP for the garden BBQ. That size of cylinder won't fit into the front locker of my 2009 Swift.
Calor lite for us - we've had no problems with it, and can get two bottles in our front locker which is useful if you're running low before a trip, just take a spare with us.

I won't touch either of them again.... We use a SafeFill cylinder.
I can top up before every trip (no need to wait until it's empty) so only need to take the one 8.6kg container with us on most occasions.
Like the BP cylinder you can see the liquid level inside (even more clearly so)
I've had no problems filling it up at the majority of filling stations that have LPG.
From empty it costs between £11 and £12 to fill so both Calor and BP can shove there over priced exchanges where the sun don't shine.
I use two 5kg bottles of BP Lite and these are linked with an auto changer valve. Some people say it is not that easy to get, but if you caravan doesn't stock it there is an Homebase almost everywhere nowdays. I have seen it on sale in Spain at BP truckstops and you can get it anywhere in Portugal. If you have a bulkhead regulator the adapter will drop straight on to a Le Cube bottle in France, I know you can get it in Holland but I am not too sure on the connector.

Our tourer days are over and we have moved on to a Hobby Motorhome
I have never used BP gas so I can't really make any comment on this but I always use Calorlite as I know they are specifically designed for the needs of caravanners in general. As mentioned, some BP cylinders won't fit in the front locker so this could somewhat create a problem, so judging by the answers I prefer to stick with the Calorlite as I never had a problem in the past apart from a sticky gauge which will usually rectify itself if you turn the cylinder upside down.
please be aware that any club site uk,ie CCC / CC will only exchange calor bottles so if you run out it could mean an 11 mile drive or more to get a replacement,as we did one time.we use calorlite and are quite content with it.would not like to go back to the old heavy bottles. full it weighs 22lbs or 10 kgs.

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
We have 2 Calor Lite cylinders. Before changing I researched the feasibility of BP and Calor Lite. I had leanings towards BP cost and weightwise, and because I don't like Calor and their restrictive practices, but the the BP cylinder diameters were too large for the securing straps and moulded bases in our Senator (2006) Arizona's front locker.
I have subsequently considered SafeFill cylinders but because of the high initial costs it would take years to break even and begin to make savings. We usually use pitches with EHU and rarely use gas for anything other than for cooking.

I have 2 calorlite bottles at the moment, but what you say about SafeFill is a very valid point. The trouble is, I'd still be inclined to carry two. One for the caravan and one for the Cadac. We always have one permanently connected to the van, and one permanently connected to the Cadac, which we move about... just CBA to keep unscrewing/screwing gas bottles etc. At £150 a throw, I couldn't really afford to buy two of the things. It also worries me a little about being able to find a garage to fill them up. I think I'll wait for many more folk to buy them and try them first before I go down this line. In the meantime, I'll wait for the price to come down.
We carry 2 calorlite cylinders. We have a piece of hose attached to one and another piece of hose attached to the cadac with a quick release connector to join them up. I can't say I have been overly impressed with the cadac yet, but have only used it a couple of times.
We are not getting away enough to use that much gas so cost of gas isn't an issue.

For normal use we have 2 calor lite cylinders. For winter I also have a 13Kg Calor that I can take in the car - we rally and don't normally have EHU.
How do you get on connecting up the 13kg bottle as the normal pigtails are not long enough to reach the bottle on my 'van if the bottle is outside and a 13kg bottle would not fit my front locker as the smaller bottles do.

We run a 5 & a 10 kg bp light. We have a BBQ point on the van so we can run each one empty without panic & still run the Cadac. As said you're never too far from a Homebase who stock bp gas.
