Has anybody with an older van given this much thought? I use this for the hob only. Heating a coupla weeks ago in the Northwest (Flookborough) was handled most efficiently by an infra red; 400W was adequate most of the time. Went up to 800 on one or two occasions . . . . seems a bit pointless having leccy if it wasn`t for the hob, , ,.

I like to have a choice, but I do know people who dont use gas, just take an induction electric hob. I suppose it depends on the nature of the cooking you do!

I have an old caravan it has an electric heater, a gas hob and a 3 way fridge. I never took the the gas bottle at all this year. I had electric hook up whenever I was away, I did have an electric ring but they use too much power. I ended up buying 2 of the gas rings that run off the small gas canisters, a lot easier to manage and the awning is ventilated when using them. My caravan is small internally and I don't like everyone being so close to the cooker inside, so I set my kitchen up in the awning and keep the caravan for sleeping. Some people might think this is a bit of a bother but it suits me, much more room in the awning. It also means that the beds can be left up if I want.
I also bought one of the wee gas fires that run off the small bottles to use in the caravan but I'not sure about ventilation, especially after hearing about the accidents in tents earlier this year, I'm a bit doubtful. I always disconnect the bottles just to be on the safe side.
I cook & boil the kettle in the awning also, only cook in the van at the end of the season when I take the awning down, just for a few days, we do use the oven in the van & microwave.
