Our 10 my Pegasus has no significant stone chipping & we used to tow with a 4x4.

We now tow with a FWD car so we are not expecting it to get any worse.

What towcar do you have?

Apparently our van has slightly thicker pads than the early ones, but it has not got the bigger bumpers.

Re the 524 front beds, if you pull out the day bed on one side you get a couple extra inches by using it diagonally......

Have you looked at the Adria Altea 542dk. It has the benches at the front and make up into a double but are not long enough as singles. The layout at the back would be perfect. It has huge twin bunks. The bottom one doesn't have a weight limit and the are 6'3" long and 2'6" wide. It has a large side dinette opposite that will seat 4 and turns into double and the whole back has a screen to shut it of at night. It is well within you budget. They are built well with polyester sides. The Adora range may suit if you wanta bit more extra's

It weighs in at 1300KG fully loaded

wizzo, we have looked at the adrias but perhpas we're being fussy but found them a bit basic. The layout is perfect and the weight is great too but OH didnt find front seats comfy and we'd miss the microwave , external gas bbq point and external power point although I expect we could get these bits as extras. We have an Adria dealer a couple of miles away. Perhaps they are worth a second look

Zafiral, we tow with a mondeo estate. Thanks for the info about the days beds giving that extra few inches but we need our two on seperate beds or they'd spend all night winding each other up and blaming each other!!

I agree the front seats aren't the most comfy but are more than adequate and they do make up a comfy bed. Unfortunately there always seems to be compromises within the caravan industry. The Altea is well built but more comfy seats would increase price and possibly weight.

Dealers can fit an external socket for gas and 240v. I have seen dealers take of one on the doors of the overhead lockers which fits microwave nicely. We have ours free-standing where the TV should be and the TV is now on a wall bracket.(ours is the 542DT with triple bunks)

You have to weigh up the pros and cons. I hope you manage to track down the van of your dreams! Let us know how you get on.

If you pull out one day bed, there will still be an 18" gap between the two sides....
