Got the latest magazine today and there is a pamphlet in it for purchasing meat at £29.00. For this you get the following;
2 x Ribeye steaks (weight 200gm for both)
2 x Pave rump steaks (weight 200gm for both)
2 x Pave rump medallions (weight 200gm for both)
4 x Grand steak burgers (weight 600gms for 4)
Plus free 12 mini steak burgers (weight 540gm)
Oh and it is Scottish meat.

Do you think the above is expensive for £29? I think I could eat the lot in one go on my own! Only about 1.7kgs of meat altogether!

Certainly not a bargain and to say it's Scottish is meaningless. Depends how it's been bred hung & butchered.

Go to your local butcher. He will know all about his meat.

1740grams for £29 of which 1140 grams is mince (burgers), equals £16.66 kilo. Best rib eye steak in our butchers is £21.99 kilo and rump about  £13. 99kg. so not a bargain I think. Theres a carriage charge in there of course.

Far from being a bargain, its a rip off, I think they rely on people being a bit ignorant as to the going prices for beef, and the fact that to some people it would be misleading as to actually how big each steak is in the flesh so to speak, due to them not being used to the metric weights stated, and still thinking in pounds and ounces. The wording is also a little confusing as to if each steak weighs 200gms (about 8oz), or does it mean that your actually getting 2x100gm (under 4oz) steaks instead, each enough to feed a five year old child in other words!

With supermarkets and local butchers offering 3 family sized meat packs for a tenner, and that includes steaks in some, then I certainly would not buy any from them, I also like to see what im buying regards the amount of fat and any visible gristle, which is obviously not possible when you order meat in this way.

I thought as much, but wanted to check the reaction of other people. I wonder if they catch out any people.

Bargain or not, I always like to see what I'm buying and then make the choice. Carol will generally not use home delivery services for the same reason.

I've never been convinced about mail order meat. I do like to see what I'm buying. Also I think the whole concept of "food miles" is so right. Wherever you live there will be fantastic producers and suppliers of most products. Sure I buy from supermarkets but if you want something a little special hunt out out your local butcher, grocer, baker and deli, and ask them where they buy from. So much more fun as well.

We bought 1.3kg of Silverside of beef from Llynclys Farm Shop,today. It was beautiful and you didnt really need a knife to cut it. It was £9.98. Bargain.
Just because this other stuff is Scottish doesnt mean its any good, and at the price advertised it seems to be extremely expensive.
