We've seen cats a few times and to be honest I did have a couple of bad experiences, firstly there have been a few times when the cats were just let out to roam which not only sends our dogs ballistic but i've seen them chasing birds & squirrels and most importantly pooing wherever they like and the owners never cleaned it up, cats carry the same worm as dogs can which can cause blindness so their poo is potentially as dangerous as dogs.

Maybe they didn't see it but as a dog owner I know it's us who get it in the neck if there's a poo left on the grass and the cat who was pitched 3 caravans from us in the summer was around our van every day out of sight from its owners and was always doing his business on the grass. It's common sense that if a pet is off on it's own out of sight then there's a chance it'll be emptying itself at some point

Before it starts a huge pro/anti cat debate I must say that I DO like cats and have also seen one or two on site happily sat in the caravan windows watching the world go by and have been excercised on a harness by their responsible owners.

I think it's just a case of common sense with any pet on holiday, keep them under control and make sure they aren't a nuisance to fellow caravanners and everybody is happy.

We take our cat with us quite often within the UK. You need to check the attitude of the site you are going to. If they say that you need a harness and your cat is an untrained stray, then you will have to leave it behind. Much also depends on the disposition of the cat and how far he/she goes from the back door normally. Ours is a female tabby with a very short range and not very agile. She is very attached to the van and returns at once if there is a threat of any kind. An un-neutered tom would have a much larger territory. Cats will generally prefer pitches close to a hedge, providing cover, rather than ones out in the middle of a site far from a boundary. As most cats are very sharp at detecting signs when their humans decide to pack up and move on, you will have to restrain the cat as soon as you start preparations to leave,

Initially ours used to gap it under the caravan as she did not want us to go home! Now no issue. I call her and she gets straight into the carrier. We mainly use CLs so no real issue.
