Looking to change our van, the later models have a long parallel top rail, meaning that we can have a longer model than our current Sunncamp.  Looking in the December C.C. mag., the Bradcot flexible awning shown on page 12 could be ideal.  Unfortunately, their website doesn't seem to give very much helpful detail.  We intend to ring them for more info, but cannot find any accessory shop that has one on display.  As it is advertised as 'Bradcot Direct', are we searching in vain?  We are in the Leicestershire area.  Has anyone seen this awning locally?   Having been disappointed in the past by relying on brochure patter, it's 'see it before buying' now.

Bertie.

Wise move Bertie, always better to see the product first hand before parting with the wonga. I saw it in the mag and was intrigued, let us know how you get on.

The awning you mention is the Modus model. Go on Bradcot's website and look for local stockists in your area. Phone your stockist and see if they have one on display.

We purchased the 2 metre unit and bought an additional 2 metre attachment for longer trips away. The awning is not cheap but we love it! There are no guy ropes to trip over and at first it was quite tricky to assemble but colour code your poles for each section and you won't go wrong.

We had a full size Bradcot awning for our last caravan for 5 years and it is still in good condition. Hoping to sell it in the new year.

The Modus is very roomy and excellent quality, by having different size attachments you can buy the relevant size for your own specific needs and to fit your caravan.

We saw one assembled at our local dealer and were impressed with it. Bradcot are now offering 0% interest over 12 months so you can spread the cost.

Happy hunting, hope you like it and purchase one, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the tip, Joyce.  Looking at the picture, I didn't expect there to be much in the way of poles; more like the flexible carbon-fibre rods that we have in the Sunncamp.  How does the weight of poles compare to a standard full awning?

Will go back on line and try to find a reasonably local dealer with one on display.

Bertie.

Hello Bertie

The poles are aluminium and I e-mailed Bradcot for the weights of each unit.

Weights as follows : Base unit 22.9kg, 1m unit 8.2kg and 2m unit 11.2kg.

Each unit comes in a separate bag and they are definitely lighter than a standard full awning.

Hope this helps.

Joyce.

Where are you? Catterick caravans had one up in their showroom when we visited last month.

Hi, Annegor.  We are familiar with catterick caravans, but are based in Leicestershire.

Hi, Joyce.  From the ad., we assumed that you have a choice of using just the base unit (short/overnight stop), or only one end unit (left or right), or base and both ends. The ad. has a phone number, so a call to bradcot might help find a more local demo facility, and give us further details.

Bertie.

Good news about the Modus awning.  Bradcot are sending me a brochure, and one is to be erected on display later this week at a caravan sales ground about 7 miles from where we live.

That's good news. Wouldn't mind seeing one myself. I thought Bradcot had gone over to mail order only, but they appear to be coming out of the woodwork again. We always liked our old Bradcot awning - I think I still have it somewhere!!

Just bought a Modus 2m with 2m extension ourselves. We have only got as far as putting upthe frame in the garage and colour coding the poles. Looks really well made, but will let you all know how the first putting up goes.

To our eyes, even though it is a clever idea, its pricing puts it too close to full awnings & the material is not as good.
I am not anti Bradcot as when we went to look at a Modus, we came away with a Bradcot Active Awning with the easy up frame.
