Did it in last years snow and the previous year also. Just got to take it easy. I found the motorways and main roads weren't too bad. The main issue was the country lanes and any minor roads you have to take. I only have a 2 wheel drive also but a 4 wheel drive would be better if you have one. Merry christmas to you too

Yes I did I went to pick up my caravan which I bought on ebay on the 18/12/2010 a Saturday I left Yorkshire at 5am and piked it up at Hereford at 10 am thats when it all went wrong got on the m5 and the snow came down. After about 5 miles up the motorway the traffic stopped and hell broke out we were stuck there for 8 hours without moving at about 6pm the traffic started to move and once I got going I never stopped again till I got home the snow was falling all the way home,I just took it very steady and had no problems and all the while cars were skating off the road all over the place.I have a nissan xtrail and it delt with all the bad conditions and I never used 4 wheel drive all the way home but I have to say I am an HGV Driver.Ian

we did it one year coming home from keswick in march time.it was really scary.the motorway was completely blocked 12 inch deep but for one lane in the centre and it was snowing heavy all the time.we did the trip all the way home at about 20 MPH or less.by the time we got home we were down to 10 MPH.not do it again we will stop the night next time it forecast heavy snow.

Not last year, but several times in the past. We will be off to Wales in the New Year, and are expecting, and hoping for snow.
Sitting on a snowy field, looking at Snowdon covered in snow is marvellous.
Like any weather, you just have to drive to the conditions.

Are you saying you wouldn't Jeff?
What if it was your job?
You would just get on and do it. Caravans would be among the easiest things I have towed in the snow.
You don't normally get a choice.

Nothing I like more than a good fire. I think because I had to do it for so long, I just get on with it now. It would never occur to me to change my plans because of the weather.
In fact we would prefer snow when we next go to Wales. It's really lovely.

When it snows here it looks like everywhere else, i can sit at the fire looking out of the window and see the traffic struggling, i never consider going further than the coal bunker, after a life time of driving artics in all conditions i have finally settled down to a life of comparitive ease ( except for baby sitting the g/kids and taking the dog out 3 times a day no matter what the conditions),, thinks.... maybe caravaning in snow is a better alternative

Got myself some snowsocks this year. My car's an automatic, & it's rear wheel drive (old Beemer), no traction control or ABS to dampen the driving experience (this is where I think modern cars fall down, you don't tend to get any feedback or feeling of what's going on with them, all the controls are far too light IMO).

Anyway, I ordered 2 pairs of snowsocks, on special offer with Groupon, but ended up with 4 pairs by mistake.

I've always driven older cars, most without power steering, I think these are good ways to learn how to drive in winter conditions. As for towing, well I wouldn't deliberately go out in the snow with a caravan, but if it just happened to me, I would take it easy or pull over, wind the rear jacks down & get the kettle on.

(I would secretly relish the opportunity really. I'm not a fan of snow, but I like an adventure, weather it be a very careful drive, or an impromptu overnight stop in a lay-by somewhere )

not my idea of fun   lorry drivers have to do it for a living and they get in bother so leisure towers like me would rather stay at home and not have to learn the hard way     ther'e plenty of time to enjoy caravanning withoutt going through snow

I wouldn't out of choice , obviously if you get caught out there's not really much choice, it's different if it is your job I was a van driver for car parts so had to drive in it, but if there is a choice taking the caravan in the snow then no I wouldn't , what do they always say when it snows, if your journey isn't necessary then stay at home. They don't say that just for fun.
