Just got back from Ferry Meadows where we have been since Xmas Eve.Our first caravanning Xmas, but definately not our last! The kids have all grown up and wanted to spend the holidays with their in-laws so we decided to pack up the van and head to our favorite site for Xmas.

From the moment we arrived we knew we had made a good decision, on Xmas Eve there was mince pies, wine and carol singers by the reception; and how festive we felt just then!! If a few flakes of snow had fallen it would have been almost perfect at that exact moment. And to see all the vans trimmed with lights and trees was absolutely stunning.

Christmas day was a delight; with Christmas dinner being easily coped with by our Burstner kitchen, a walk around the beautiful lakes followed by beer, chocolates and Dr Who.

My cousin arrived on Boxing Day in their new Bailey Senator, and having company helped so much; meals were cooked, beer was drank.

the weather helped, and the site really filled up from Boxing day onwards; although there were many more vans there for xmas than we imagined.

Would we do it again? absolutely! although we'd take more lights to decorate the van; and if we manage to have New Year off too it'll be Abbey Wood next time to take in the fireworks!

Xmas in the caravan? wonderful!

Do it, my missus wasn't sure either. But she is absolutely converted now.

You have been fortunate that the weather this year has been pretty mild, relatively speaking! I have lost count of the number of times we have been to Ferry Meadows over the years, in fact it was the first ever campsite we went to over 30 years ago. Have not been brave enough to spend Christmas away in the van but you never know. Glad it was a success.

After the stressful Christmas I've just had, refereeing the boys squabbles, I think I might have Christams all by myself in Holi next year!!!!

Glad you had a wonderful time.

We had 4 nights at Whitemead, Forest of Dean.  It was wonderful.  There were about 25 other caravans on site, and we were told this was down on last year despite last year being snowy, icy etc.  There was a good mix of ages, from very young children to 70+, families camping together or like us just the 2 of us.

Christmas day was spent going for a swim and sauna, then putting the joint of beef to cook on the cob, and in order to get a mobile signal going for a walk.  On getting back the smell of the beef was very welcoming and Christmas dinner very enjoyable.

OH has been very stressed with work and it was the tonic he needed to refresh.  We only came back home for New year as we had guests staying.

Would most definitely recommend, it is a most enjoyable experience.

We have already booked next Christmas away, although that is in a yurt.

Shirley

Got back from Cornwall late yesterday and what a fabulous Christmas and New Year we have had.
We met up with a fantastic couple from Tamworth we spent the days out and about with them and then met up in the bar in the evenings, Christmas dinner in the caravan was a great success after having a few drinks in the bar as you do, we were as warm as toast and very cosy in the van with the wind whistling outside. We could not find fault with the site in any way nothing was to much trouble for the owners Steve and Lene.
The party on New Years eve was great and the buffet that had been prepared by Carl the chef was absolutely gorgeous not a sausage roll or curled up sandwich in site the home made pate was to die for and the fireworks at midnight were lovely, I shall be submitting a very favorable review.

Happy New Year to every one.
Sue.
