Hi,

Sorry for coming to this late, but thought some advice on getting cheap Isle of Wight ferries would be useful (source: Isle of Wight Guru http://www.isleofwightguru.co.uk/cheap-isle-of-wight-ferry-travel.html

There isn't really a 'cheapest crossing' as they all do different deals, but here are some general tips:

- Swap Tesco Clubcard points for Wightlink vouchers (worth 3x value)

- Use a discount code. MP13WHV gives 10% off Wightlink until the end of December 2013.

- Pay with Avios on Red Funnel (Airmiles) 1 point is worth about 0.5p
http://www.avios.com/gb/en_gb/spend/ferries

- Travel late in the day if possible - Wightlink do a good late night deal. Also, avoid Saturdays during the summer if possible as prices skyrocket.

- Claim back your fare if badly delayed - you are entitled to

- Fill up your car - six people often costs the same as one, so consider a liftshare website

- Incorporate a visit to an attraction - it sometimes works out cheaper as Wightlink do fixed price day tickets. Red funnel do something similar.
http://www.wightlink.co.uk/offers/days-out-on-the-iow

- Buy a 'tourist card' for 10% off Wightlink (costs £10 for a week though)

- If you're on foot, take the car ferry. It is slower but cheaper.

Those are the main ones I know of at the moment.

Don't know if they are still doing it but,Towsure had a deal with Red funnel and four caravan sites on the IOW,at certain times of the year, cost including Ferry and pitch around £150.

It's well known that mile for mile it's the most expensive stretch of water to cross in the world.

We don't have far to travel to get to the ferry terminal but we would think twice, and tend to use our Tescos points.

We went to the IOW in early September and I booked my Red Funnel ferry with the Caravan Club and it cost £89 for an 8mt motorhome which I thought was reasonable.

Just got an offer for 4 nights in a static for £82, 1st week October, ferry crossing included. Seriously thinking about it as we have relatives in Poole so could throw in a visit there as well.

We paid a fortune, apparently.

2nd week of August, (3 adults, 3 kids and dog, car and van), £320 return from Portsmouth. Plus the fat end of £300 CC site fees for the week. Chap in the 'van next door paid less than half that (but he only had 3 persons travelling).

Plus my youngest lad (6) snapping his elbow at Robin Hill (fell off the monkey bars!!!) added to the "fun".

Super holiday though, and definitely one we won't forget!

Park van, awning up, open wine, enjoy life!
