i have a millenco compact wheel clamp which has only been used by the previous owner of my caravan (2009 model)a couple of times .when i try to use it the clamp wont tighten onto the wheel, anybody any ideas ? i wondered if the thread could have stipped inside the clamp it just turns and turns without gripping the wheel/tyre
Dont really know the model but had a look at some pictures. It does sound as if something is stripped, you could get it re tapped or i would just buy a new one.I prefere Bulldog wheel clamps myself.

Have you tried tightening the clamp whilst it is off the wheel to see if it tightens at all as this will be easier to inspect the locking mechanism. Apply some lubrication such as WD40 to see if that cures the problem as well but it sounds to me like a new clamp will be required for maximum security as yours may have a worn clamping screw.
I had a similar SAS clamp and all it is is an alenkey type bolt that draws the rear bar onto the wheel. You should be able to check if the threads are stripped or if the bolt is actually in the nut section. I would think it would need some great force to strip the thread as they are fairly robust.
Can I suggest that you check that the clamp hasn't been opened so far that the bolt has come right off the threaded nut. If it has, pushing the two jaws together while turning the screw might solve it.
have managed to get it sorted i stripped it down and the thread had broken off from a small ring inside so i have re-welded it back on. Thanks to everybody for your help
