Hi everyone, when we bought our Swift Accord last year it came with a porch awning but we would like to buy a full awning for the kids to sleep in. We dont want to spend a fortune, and I have seen a second hand Towsure Insignia awning for about £250. Not sure whether to purchase second hand or not and also would I need to spend £500 upwards for a new awning? The size it says of the van is 968cm so does that mean we would need a size 960-986 awning? many thanks everyone xx

Dorema have a factory clearance sale with huge discounts. I bought a brand new one last year from them which was a size 10 for £430 which included the lock pads, storm straps and delivery charges too. For a 968 cm. awning you would need a size 13 (Dorema size) which is 950 - 975 cms. but please note that the sizes can differ with various manufacturers.

Personally speaking I would be VERY wary about buying a second hand awning without giving it a very thourough going over. Check all seams and also the poles

I have bought second hand tents & Awnings for years. We have had up to 4 awnings at the same time before now and used to buy festival tents for our son. Most have been bought "bagged" in auctions. I have bought some brilliant examples. The typical used once - didn't like it type. Have also bought some pretty poor examples but only ever one unusable. Bearing in mind the minimal price paid, on the whole it has been a beneficial policy.
I would have no qualms about second hand especially f given a chance to inspect. I personally would never buy new at £500 plus. I like to buy mine below a tenner!
