Now that we've had a good deal of rain, I went to check on my caravan in storage to see if it was dry inside ( had some water ingress issue's,repaired under warranty). When I got there caravan was nice and dry..Shame about my battery compartment though!. Some thieving ars***le had helped themselves to my battery and connectors, plus damaging the inside catch in the process. . Ordered replacement parts off theifbay (and I have a spare leisure battery at home), so another job on my to-do list!Sat in work feeling fed up to say the least!. Rant over, regards Mark.
Thanks tismeinnit. Worse things in life can happen, so on this occasion I think I got away lightly? Caravan storage is quite safe so my gut instinct is that someone who stores their caravan has done this? but who knows?. Society seams to be going downhill. (not tarring everyone with the same brush if you get what I mean). Replacement parts are pretty cheap,so it isn't the end of the world.
Funny that. My old van's battery compartment lid is a bit dodgy, but when I went there the other day I could swear someone had had a go at it.
Like I said, it's a bit dodgy anyway (another job on my to-do list) so could've been a freak gust of wind or something.
Luckily my battery was at home, as I don't like to leave it in there for more than 4 weeks without a charge, but if it had gone missing I would've struggled to replace it before my next outing, as I'm on a very tight budget, getting tighter by the week.
Theft (of any form on a personal level) is one of those things which really gets my back up. Even when I lived in a shared house, people stealing my food used to really grate on me, so much so I once laced my own milk with laxatives (very naughty I know, but it made me feel better at the time ).
what really pppp's me off is the fact that we work hard for lifes little luxeries, most of even then have to save up long and hard to actually get what we want,
then some idle glassback with sticky fingers ,who couldn't , for the most part, spell the word work, let alone do any ,comes along and helps them selves to our stuff
if it were up to me i'd be emulating our middle eastern cousins and removing bits of the theiving scum-buckets limbs.
so i guess what i'm saying is YES it do'es p*** me off
------------- no tin tent outings booked as yet ,just another cruise in Sept' booked so far
I agree with you realbusdriver.I'd enjoy removing limbs with a blunt instrument. Trouble is the Great in Great Britain is sadly disappearing faster month by month (don't get me started on that one). You go to work to provide for your family and try and have a few luxuries in life but every way you turn you seem to get shafted! What goes around comes around is the way i look at things these days!
Mark.

The same thing happened to me three years ago. After using the caravan for the first time on my own it was left at the storage site for three months before I used it again. When I went to connect up the battery it had gone from the front compartment - and the security is so good at that place that it could only have been someone else with a caravan there who took it.

Makes me very sad to hear of all these thefts from secure storage.
Seems even some of our fellow caravanners can't be trusted. I only hope, if it is fellow enthusiasts, the same (or similar) happens to them some day. It's not on.

I was just thinking the same. Seems the unwritten code whereby theives don't steal from their own (family) or on their own doorstep is no longer an unwritten law.
makes your blood boil these nomarks think they dont have to work or pay for anything, we will take yours is their attitude, on the same thread as magsruby whilst sitting in the works canteen someone came in and took my bottle of lemon and lime and took a good few swigs and then left(i thought i was going through a lot) if hed asked id have gladly give him a drink so i took it to the loo and topped it up if you get my drift and put it back in fridge although i probably wouldnt be there to see the payback the thought of it was enough for satisfaction

Unfortunately Caravaning does seem to be attracting some low life's in very recent years. I'm hoping when the recession is over they all beggar off back to the where they went to before they couldn't afford it.
I've had stuff nicked on site a couple of times now, it's not so much the loosing of the stuff, its more upsetting that the people around you are capable of being sad enough to do it. I do like to caravan with rose colored spectacles on, and it leaves a bad taste in the mouth when it happens.
i once had my jockey wheel stolen all the waste pipe under my caravan whilst in storage. bought it home and caravan got nicked from outside my house.last year at west runton someone removed one of the caps on my waste hog.i know a chap who caught a thief in his shed and nailed his hand to his workbench got 6 months and the thief got compensation.
We have had one van broken in to and another van stolen in the past - I'm rather hoping we've had our share of it. Went to check on the van the other day and all seemed well - forgot to check the battery though. Really sorry to hear of your problems.
