we are looking to change our car and thinking about a chevrolet captiva, we currently have a kia sedona 2.9 diesel and tow a sterling eccles quartz, anyone got a captiva or any opinions would be very welcome
No idea but if memory serves me well was someone on here had issue with the turbo in one. But online you can find negatives on all cars people normally only post problems.
We have the 5 seater, 2Ltr diesel, on demand 4 wheel drive, from Barnsley strangely enough. We have had no problems with it. We tow a Sterling Eccles Emerald. We will have to look for a different vehicle next time as Chevrolet have decided not to produce the 5 seater in 4 wheel drive.
If getting car from Barnsley Pentagon make sure you get the key for the wheel locking nuts.
------------- Yesterday is already a dream and tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
We have a Captiva 7 seater, which we bought for the 7seats, and so far we haven't had any problems. I saw the comments about the turbo but it seemed not to be limited to Chevvys but any turbo diesel. Basically it seems you need to let any turbo diesel idle for a short while after a long run or it fries the oil in the turbo.
We tow a Dandy Destiny with it and we have to be careful as you hardly notice it's there.
Premature turbo failure is generally caused by sludge blocking the turbo oil feed pipe. The sludge build up results from failure to change oil at correct interval &/or using cheap low spec oil &/or failure to use correct oil drain procedure. A full main dealer service history should come with any diesel vehicle being considered.
Ex leased/company cars may not necessarily have been main dealer serviced & could have been run over service intervals.
have an Elddis Jetstream and tow with a 2ltr diesel Captiva - tows a dream and I average 40-ish mpg without towing, 30-ish with the van on the back. Gearbox is clunky especially between 3rd and 4th but thats just the car. Nice n comfy to drive though.
Hi we were the ones with the turbo problem...just to comfirm that we bought our 2ltr diesel auto 7 seater new and did have a full service history, done by the main dealer when the turbo went. (for what good that did us!).
Chevrolet themselves were awful when it all happened and wiped their hands of the problem.
We love the car but when we buy again we will probably go for a different manufacturer as we were told by Wilsons that others would probably have helped to finance the huge bill, good will not a thing Chevrolet themselves know or care about!!.
PS We dont get anywhere near 30mpg when towing...(we tow a Sterling Eccles Ruby)wish we did!
i am very suprised tbh to hear of turbo failure problems on the captiva, i work at pentagon chevrolet in barnsley and we have changed only 1 turbo in 5 years, that was changed because the control unit went down the turbo itself had only done a thousand miles, in fact i have the old unit in my garage if you ever need one, just needs the control unit from the old unit bolting to it.
btw i drive a hyundai tucson 4wd as a tow car and its the best towbus i have had, apart from my old pajero which was brill.
------------- uhhm!!! lets take it to bits..see how it should work..lol
